As this was a Ta$man derby the ref was from the region. He was very strict on high tackles and dished out YCs to both teams for tackles above the sternum (his words). There were also YCs for repeated offside infringements near the goal line, so he was more on the side of officious than not. Ironic.

I remember when they had both Umaga-Jensen bros, Connor Garden-Bachop, TJ Va'a and Malo Tuitama in their backline, plus Alex Fidow up front. I think they drew the national title that year.
I wonder also if them becoming a co-ed school may have impacted proceedings somewhat?

This game was played in heavy rain with a field that reminded me of 1970s and 1980s rugby in the wet. A very good DG to win it in those conditions.
