Captain Combover's
He's had a promotion from Crafty to Captain?
The only cunning element is the level he'll go to to get the band back together.

Sam Whitelock to return in a player-coach role.

I understand the calls for Love, but Reihana? He should be a long way off. I would rather see Jacomb if we really had to pick someone.
Jacomb looked way out of his league playing for the Barbarians team.
Yeah I don't see what Jacomb has that would make him better. Both still fairly young though? I'm inclined to ignore NPC for the most part anyway - certainly is interesting to judge players on that rather than SR.
Reihana had a handful of Super Rugby standard games this season. No better than that. My point is, our up and coming 10s are not that good at the moment. Not advocating for Jacomb, just saying I would look at him before Reihana. Neither one of them are AB standard.
This is bang on.
We lament the same blokes failing in black. But no one is banging the door down behind them.
Our talent pathways are looking sketchy
Not sure we can write off promising talent so easily. Particularly when they see ex-players being openly courted by the coaching set-up after heading for the big overseas moolah.

I actually mis-read Crafty as Crotty. And then thought "Why not?"

I think we got a bit of potential at 10 with young fellas, like Simpson and Cole. Only kids , but I see them as future, probably 3-5 years away, but thats is what it is. I still reckon Jacomb will be ok to fill in as he gets experience.
Yeah it feels like we are in a holding pattern for now, with no one seemingly ready. It can change quickly though, it wasnt long ago we were worried about 9, now we have some good options there.

It would help if Razor (and Fozzie before him) would select the form 10s of SR and see what they can do. Say what you want about Plummer, and Reihana after him. They played significant roles in helping their teams win SR titles and deserved some consideration. Love showed ability at the position until Laidlaw moved him back to 15. It's about time some of these guys were given a fair go in the squad, both in terms of coaching and real playing time in real matches

This silly meme has always made me chuckle, the fact it’s true makes Razor seem all the more ridiculous in his Moungaism
You could make the same meme for Steve Hansen with Aaron Cruden at No 1, and Beauden Barret acting like a entitled champion with an interior win rate.
-
@tubbyj for sure, Aaron Cruden was a much better 10 than Beauden, what we'd give for someone of his class right now

Can you do it ? I’m not very tech savvy

The whole thing fucks me off. If it were a club team, I'd hope that the whole thing would blow up in Robertson's face, that McKenzie would leave, then Mounga would come back and suck, and the team lose terribly as a direct result
It fucking sucks that it's the ABs, so I can't hope any of that. -

I'm far from delighted about this deal.
Watching two World Cup failures where we built the team around Richie Mo'unga was depressing enough. His limitations were ruthlessly exposed by England in Yokohama in 2019 and the Springboks in Paris in 2023. I doubt he's learned to manage limited time on the ball against an extremely organised rushed defence since.
I do not wish to see us lose a third World Cup because of Richie Mo'unga's average game management skills.
If he really is our best First Five and worth all the money NZR is throwing at him, then why aren't we making him available for the five-week tour of South Africa next year?
2019 sure he wasn’t at his best in the semi, but we simply got out muscled and out coached.
2023 final he was very good with his only error was missing that goal kick. He got us moving forward plenty.
Let’s just see how he goes when he returns. He was playing well in Japan but we’ve seen only one or two come back better to NZ from their time there with many not returning to their once AB test form.

There are a few comments here suggesting Mo’unga is still going to have to play well once back in New Zealand, before he makes the All Blacks and if he isn’t up to it, he’ll be dropped.
The problem is, if Robertson thinks he has his answer at first five in Mo’unga, he isn’t going to bother with a plan B. Mo’unga turns out to be awful upon return and it’s Barrett at first five for the World Cup.
