It would be a downgrade for Taranaki to go from Josh Jacomb to Barrett.

pretty much every single AB should be released to play at least 20 mins for their province this weekend.
A don't think that will happen, if it was me yep send them all back and earn your spot back, at least show something like you are Hungry and want to fight for your spot.
Not I will have a week off and Fuck it I don't have to try too hard I will get picked no matter what I do.yeah, its the problem with the central contracting (IMO) cant help but feel Razor would be told to look at players they already have signed up on AB contracts regardless of if someone had a barnstorming season....(i might not understand how the contracting works though)

I cant help but think about the clip of Harry Wilson in extra time against Arg last week when they had just won a penalty. Thinks for a moment, looks at his team, points directly at the corner then turns around and screams at his forwards with belief.
The guy is 25 years old, 20 something caps. Has been there through some fucking shit wallabies seasons over the past few years. Lifted the team. Not that hes the perfect player but fuck it feels like something the all blacks need. I dont know who could bring that for us, but it feels like its not there.
I feel like everyone thinks ardie is like that, but i actually dont think ardie would believe in his team as much as he just believes in himself. Jordie to be fair plays with his heart but Im not sure hes up for bossing his older brothers/older team mates around like he needs to. I dont know. Roigard really seems like that kind of no-nonsense operator and works fucking hard, but needs to keep fit for a while first.
I do think the team lacks men.
In the old sense....I know this sounds like such a dinosaur thing to say, but when I look at Reinach I see a man. When I look at Roigard I see a boy.
Same for PSDT, Etzebeth, Marx and the rest. Men.
We are an easy on the eye, well manicured, clean shaven, well spoken bunch.
Roigard literally shits all over Reinach so I'm missing the point being made here.
well, Reinach is consistently available which instantly makes him a more valuable player.
-
@upthelanders that comes to the team coaches to decide what is best for the team as it will cause disruption, but they should be available, but we know they wont.

Definitely. If a player is being paid a lot of money, the NZR will be wanting them to be earning it at test level, not in the NPC.

*never going to happen i know
but it would be cool if everyone above super level was on one year deals, after the super season there is a big announcement of those that have earned a contract for the international season, the old hats have to actually earn their spot again each year, ask them selves "can i afford a few weeks more rest or do i need to play as much as possible etc"

That's kind of how NZ Cricket's central contracts work, isn't it? 20 contracts given out annually, based on performance over the previous year. Something like that.

I think you are right on the central contracting and the rest of your post.

after reading most of the comments the only safe players are taylor and roigard the rest need to be dropped. so will be interesting how two against 15 goes
And in Roigard’s case, he gets better and better the longer he isn’t playing…..

@ACT-Crusader this is the way

We could have fielded a back three of Clarke - Jordie - Jordan and completely nullified their kicking game, but our coaches are too stupid
Not with Jordan there but I agree on the other two.
Next year when we come up against the boks we should be trying to develop a backline so we can have 11. Caleb Clark 15. Jordie Barret and 14. Someone who can catch the high ball.
Sad to say but I think Jordan is the modern equivalent of Joe Rokocoko and Sitiveni Sivivatu. Can't remember him every playing well against the South Africans, certainly not in any of the recent matches. I think as a confidence player he immediately is thrown off when they are the opponents now.
He is such a liability under the high ball against them it is pointless to proceed with him playing out wide for the All Blacks against any opposition. I know this won't be popular given past failures doing it and I am not suggesting it occurs at All Black level but maybe Will Jordan should be dropped and told to go back to Canterbury and focus on learning to play centre and again next season start for the Crusaders at centre for a season in Super rugby and see if he is good enough to make the All Blacks in that position.

It makes it even more frustrating when you see teams like the Wallabies who have players like Joseph Sua’ali’i who just turned 22 btw with 10 test caps already.
Another example, Max Jorgensen who has just turned 21 already has 13 Test Caps.
ABs have youth in their team too with experience. Sititi (23), Holland (22), Roigard (24).
The ABs aren't an old team if you take out the over 30s from the squad - Savea, S. Barrett, Tuipolotu, Taylor. ALB and McKenzie are only 30 too.
Aside from Savea and Taylor, which is of these stands above their younger counterparts? And even then, is Savea the future when compared with Sititi?
The Boks have 26 players who are 30 or more in their squad. Age is not a problem in the ABs squad.
-
@tubbyj I didn't explain my thinking in that post, but my thoughts were that Jordie and Clarke would handle the majority of the high balls, and would use Jordan as a support player to run them back to help deter them from kicking it in the first place

I’d love Razor to just bite the bullet and chuck this backline out against the Wallabies (assuming Hotham is out injured again)
- Kyle Preston
- Ruben Love
- Leroy Carter
- Quinn Tupaea
- Leicester Fainga’anuku
- Will Jordan
- Jordie Barrett
Would like to see how Jordie would go at fullback.
Do people forget we saw how Jordie went as AB fullback? It wasn't good enough to keep him there.
That's just not true. He was world class at fullback, multiple MOTMs including his debut against the Lions. He was moved to 12 reluctantly after months and months of everyone calling for it as we had absolutely no one else to fill the gap at 12. He's had good games there, but I think his skillset is better suited to 15 at test level in the modern game.

If you have a strong defense that concedes less points, and players that can diffuse an opponents strengths (like JB would under the high ball), then games get a lot easier to win.
Helps build pressure too.
For example, how about we pick the best defensive centre we have if the team pattern isn't for him to pass anyway?
Say what you like about Reiko, like JB, he wouldn't have given up like so many others did in that last Test.
-
Will has 2 bad games under the high ball and everyone goes into a panic
Correct me if I’m wrong but I didn’t see him drop one high ball the other day and his defence was very strong. Still the best outside back in NZ by a long shot.
