All Blacks vs Wallabies Bledisloe I

Should have been a penalty try under the sticks
And a yellow card. To Holland I think it was.
Easy decision for a referee based on the momentum they had.

Well I guess my point is they dont play like it
They dont use their bulk
Might help if they ran onto the ball, rather than watching a giraffe attempt some "fast feet" to find a soft shoulder.

I thought the AB backs showed much more promise in this game than most of the season. Roigard was magnificent, Carter was great and Jordie and Dmac kept the Aussies busy AND got to the right place often.
Not so happy with the forwards. Loosies were pretty average, including Lakai. The odd impact moment from Ardie though.
I still see a few rough edges in the play of Holland and would prefer Vaai and Pat T starting and Scooter on the bench. Sititi Lomax, Procter and Beaudie all looked like they might need a rest next week.
We just lucky JOC made 3 bad kick errors and Aussie missing so many of their best players.
Anyways, great to see AB backs running hard on to the ball and with it, and much better use of passes to get guys into space. -
Some on here are a bit glass half empty I think.
DMac at 10, Holland starting, Paddy T, Roigard, Clarke would have made a big difference v SA -
@BerniesCorner Agreed, Holland was fantastic tonight, Vaii was shocking.

Vaai was rocks n diamonds. great turnover to get us on attack, then doesn't use an overlap. penalised badly at a ruck so we lose possession, then gets a good turnover to get it back.

This from the Sydney Morning Herald - from memory there was abit more to their loss than a ref's call...

True.
I must admit the one thing I do like about Vaa'i is that he's always active. He never has a game where you don't notice him because he's quiet or uninvolved. He may not always make the right play but he's always in the thick of the action.

how to win the game and yet not change the mind of your fans.
You can’t say we’ve really got on top of any of the three RC teams. SA was a real reality dose, and tonight feels a bit lucky too. Not great.
Razors wins are all by a fag papers width.
We have been blessed to have won some of these games.
Bit harsh with that description of the Herald

@sparky Literally saved Razor from a massive Fern rant.
he says he doesn't read media..

Going back to the discussion around players in NZ that are similar to Read, I feel one guy that I thought would be the next Read is Devan Flanders.
You suggesting a Hurricanes player.
Well, fuck me!As a Wellingtonian I hate to talk up Hawkes Bay players but to me he would be the most like Read if you compared size and his ball playing ability, aggression and physicality is where those comparisons fall short but he could get there if he had a good stretch without being injured. Playing very well for the Magpies this season.
Hugh Renton was another guy I thought could be the next K Read but probably didn’t reach the heights he could have for multiple reasons. Not even sure if he’s at the Highlanders for next season.
Read was ( and I emphasise ‘was’, crikey he is looking slim since he retired ) a similar size to Papalii ( and guys like Squire and Dixon before him ) and smaller than Parker and Finau. What he had was that intangible hard running quality that seems so lacking in guys nowadays apart from Ardie Savea. Why is that ?

Savea isn't really a hard runner, he generally only starts running after someone has tackled him. And how dare they?
-
The tactics by both teams in attack were surprisingly very similar.
Both teams had the lowest number of kicks in play for any test they have played this year. The setups for hr in close carrying.
Was promising to see us win 100% of our set piece. Especially when some were predicting Aussies would attack our set piece after the Boks test.

He is compared to everyone else, I would have had Sititi in that category last year but not so much on recent form

This was the key moment:
This came after a long period of Ardie watching the game from midfield. I actually said my oldest son, watch how lazy Ardie is, he will refuse to hit a ruck or put a shoulder in. He did this for 5 phases in a row then gave away an idiotic penalty
5 mins later he does the thing in the clip you sent, and apparently all is forgiven again and he’s having a “key moment”
He’s a total fraud

Shades of Christian Cullen?

Sititi last year not a hard runner for me, more a silky runner with very quick feet for a somewhat sizeable guy. Doesn't go through people, just messes up their defensive alignment enough that all the momentum is his.
Finau can wind up and run hard, but he's clearly out of favour.
Tuipolotu, Samisoni, Taylor, Aumua.
Having some big fluffybunny wind up and just smash into the defence is a real team motivator I've always found - it's the 'follow me' we need. -

Can’t have three hookers on the field at once unfortunately.
Also Tuipulotu hasn’t done it at test level nearly as much as Super level.
