He’s giving Squire Vibes a bit at the moment, as tbf, does Finau. Might be able to bully around against the less physical packs but might lack the edge against really physical sides.
In Parker’s defense, unlike the Chiefs, the ABs don’t have a clean-up specialist and don’t seem to take advantage of his strengths. He’s anonymous at LO time, and hardly used with ball in hand.
I’m becoming less and less convinced about Ryan - I cant think of a player, maybe Newell excepted, who actually looks the same or better at this level - that’s been a trademark of great ABs, as the level of play goes up, their performance rises alongside.
Despite his scoring achievements, for that reason I’m not prepared to say that Jordan is nearing ‘great AB’ status. Jordie can get there, maybe Clark if he stays healthy, Taylor might be the only other forward, but I don’t know if he is ‘better’.
Definitely none of the loosies are playing at ‘great’ level.
Beauden was a great AB, and Dmac will never get the chance.
I think Ryan has done an excellent job with tight five.
But aren't the loosies in Ray's purview?
Coaching and selection are different things.
If our forwards are practicing as 5 + 3, we really are fucked. It’s hard to coach lineout if the selectors pick three short arses?

Yeah lots of posters seem to think he's a better shot at blindside, seemingly due to size? For this reason I was purposely noting his involvement on Saturday and he certainly didn't look outsized.
Don't disagree, but would be nice to have a reasonably settled 6/7/8 combination at some point in the near future.

Well sure, although I'm extremely confused how your suggestion links to mine (and the irony of trying someone completely new in the interests of settling things is not lost).

Yeah, I was being ironic. Comes a point when you need to say "Enough new blokes. That's the combination we can develop the most so let's stick to it". Need to get there soon.

From a Scottish Rugby Facebook Page. I 100% believe this is exactly how things will roll this weekend........
"I took my 7yr old (rugby mad) son to Murrayfield for the last ABs game. His first visit.
At one point Scotland had a healthy lead & were on the NZ line trying to extend it to a decent margin.
I was excited & told him Scotland had never beaten the All Blacks but might do so today.
"Do you think we'll win, daddy?" He asked.
Now you can't lie to your kids, can you?
"No. I don't."
"Neither do I." He replied.
A born Scotland fan..."

Well, I think the standout 6 in Super rugby, particularly in the finals, was Blackadder. And despite the fern's collective wisdom being that he's Robertson's favourite and Robertson is biased towards Crusaders, he was dropped. From that I think it is a safe assumption that Robertson has decided he needs size at 6 (and thinks midgets elsewhere is fine).
At blindside we have Parker who is not setting the world on fire, Finau who they won't play, and they've been trying to shoe-horn Vaai in... so it seems reasonable that Beehre could make a go of 6, given that (current injury situation notwithstanding) the field there is much weaker than at lock, and that of the lock candidates he would seem to be the guy most suited to shifting to 6? -

Ardie to midfield at some point, to solve the loosie imbalance? It’s good enough for England who are playing Ben Earl In the midfield for parts of games. They’re also toying with playing Henry Pollock on the wing, I read.
Ardie seems to like wing as well.

-
@reprobate I'm not convinced on Razor having an issue with size, especially using Blackadder being dropped as the evidence.
I was just saying people see Beehre as too small for lock, which I've never quite understood and find even harder to understand after the weekend up against the big bad saffas.
-
He’s not Brodie or Whitelock height but he’s a genuine 6’6 and decent athleticism. I would not be concerned about him being at lock.
-
@Bones Josh Beehre being too small at 198cm & 118kg at 23 years is news to me, he's already quite a bit heavier than Darry & Lord who are both older, being over 198cm isn't so important (Maro Itoje is 197cm) it's more about arm reach and jumping height isn't it?

We need a tighthead lock, so once 6’ 6” it’s more about bulk. Early 120 kegs ideal.
