@Canes4life Well he is a key player for sure, but some of this stuff is a bit over the top. He wasn't the best 9 on the field in his last game, despite the try.

Yeah, I felt it was odd that Roigard waited until the last 20 mins to run the ball. Pretty much all he did before that was pass, pass, pass.

I think he just needs to demand the ball and back himself to get the team moving forward more.

Am I misremembering also that he was pretty fucking sloppy to start with? I'm sure I recall passes going all over the show.

Yeah and a bit slow at clearing the ball, didn't seem to wake up until about 60 mins, needs to be better.

Oi! Keep complaining and Roigard will change sports, leaving us with Christie! This guy is class.
If you want to jump off the wagon, you can walk home!

Hey hey, I was first on the wagon, I just know he can be better. Let's hope he reverts to that running game earlier in a game than what he did in Chicago.

@MiketheSnow That's Scott Hansen at the moment.

No that is Tamati Ellison he is defence coach.
Hansen is backline strategic coaching and planning and also working with the Hbs and First Fives.

Sounds like the backline buck stops with Hansen.

i saw the same thing you did but came to a slightly different conclusion, we were very slow getting into shape, roigard would get to the breakdown and look up and player were still in motion positioning themselves

I still think Proctor is someone to persist with and I'm sure he'll get another chance at some point, he's still a class act but needs to learn how to make more of an impact at test level. Tupaea rightfully deserved his opportunity and then Leicester also looked good. I don't mind who's in the jersey out of those three, as long as we don't revert back to Ioane or ALB.

They'll go with ALB/Proctor for Wales I reckon. Could be a good confidence booster for Proctor running in a few against them.

Then at this stage it's Red Leicester and the mighty Quinn*. The cupboard is mighty bare. Until Higgins rides in and saves us. It looks like my subtle attempt to get Ben AJ Lam into the mix last year was never going to bear fruit.

We won't even need two players in the midfield, Riley can wear the 12.5 jersey and cover both roles with his eyes closed.

We seemed to run harder in the last 20 minutes, compared to our lack of flow in the first half where our forwards refused to truck it up over multiple phases. Perhaps Cam was thrown off by this

Man you can't get on the Leicester express yet surely, he's had what a part game at 13, and before Saturday I thought most were getting on the Quinn express at 13. Cost us a fortune for tickets to them all.😁

@Dan54 we'll get on the "anyone that shows promise at centre" express. Agree it's early days, but both Quinn and Leicester have shown by far the most ball in hand so should be persevered with on that basis. The real test will be on defense though, we know Rieko is one of the best defensive centres we've had and if those guys make poor reads that cost us in tight matches, that will count against them in a big way.

I came across an interesting stat on the first Bled match this year. According to Sky -

At HT he had 7 carries for 55 metres. - 3:defenders beaten.

At FT he had 8 carries for 79 metres - 3 defenders beaten.

So after an active first half he made just one run in the second half, for his try.

In both Bled 1 and Chicago he scored a.try in the dying minutes to seal.the game. I think he is deliberately pacing himself through games and so whereas at Eden Park he was exceptional in the first half but more passive in the second half, he was the reverse on Saturday.

Just a theory of mine but I think he is experimenting and trying to figure out the right moments to impact games and the right moments to rest and defer to others.

It is encouraging to me that he has scored two late tries because it clearly shows that he can have a decisive input in games even when he has played over 70 minutes of rugby.

@nonpartizan yeah, weekend just gone it felt like he was deliberately laying a platform that could lead to more inside opportunities later in the game, making the defence look and push out. Just felt like his distribution was sub par and that probably wasn't part of the plan.

Oh yeah, know what you mean. In the first half he was tbh getting pretty obviously outplayed by JGP and he did not seem like the Roigard of the Bled matches. He was actually glacially slow in his exit kicks and stuff like that.

In the second it seemed he just tightened everything up and played with more urgency.

It’s great to have some explosive physicality on attack which has been sorely lacking from the midfield.

Maybe Jordies best option is 15 now, early days it may be but if those two fire on this tour it may be hard for him to get back in.
