Jack Goodhue turned 30 in June. Should've been entering his prime.
that wellington game against the Boks he looke elite. Defensively monstrous. But ... injuries and he has not kicked on.
Yeah - he coulda, woulda, shoulda been the next Conrad. Lacked a yard of pace, but otherwise a complete centre. Then injuries lost him another couple of yards and he was done.

@nostrildamus Gregor Paul. He’s writing about the ABs being spooked beyond their normal selves but we’ve been accustomed to seeing them in games like these many times lately.

I'm getting less and less impressed by his analyses...

I thought at half time that finally we were going to get a statement performance under Robertson.
This was an opportunity to play our own game, against a team that was going to let us do that.
At half time this should have gone 50/50 at worst. Like a final score of 40 to 20; as the Scots regained some parity.
Instead the Scots won the second half easily.
So much for playing our own game, and making a statement performance.Finished well though, always like that.
Showing a bit of mental strength, for the seond week in row. -
Quote from Tom English on the BBC, sums it up quite well from a Scottish perspective.
Scotland could and should have won. They looked immortality in the eye and said "not today", as if 120 years isn't long enough to wait. -

It's bad if we are talking about beating up the Scots as being a potential statement performance.
Scotland aren't a bad side at all. On a par with Los Pumas for me. Actually player for player I rate their backline as better than ours.

How many bad games can Ardie Savea and Beauden Barrett keep having in Black?
I can't remember any of our players in the past escaping scrutiny for such consistently disappointing performances.
Buck was unbeaten as captain and got dropped IIRC. How times have changed

Scotland could and should have won. They looked immortality in the eye and said "not today", as if 120 years isn't long enough to wait. They’ve stared immortality in the eye in each of the three previous tests. And whilst there were many talking up the “best opportunity” to break the curse, I do find the historical context interesting because many would say that lesser Scotland teams than yesterdays were right in those three tests with opportunities to win against better AB teams than what was on display yesterday.

Like all teams without much depth the loss of 2-3 key players makes a 'best chance ever' unwinnable.

Scotland (and Wales in the past) have lost close matches purely because of mentality against NZ.
Those top few inches are what wins test matches, did the Scottish players subconsciously really believe they were going to win that test match even at 17 all when they were pushing for a score?
On the other hand someone like DMAC comes off the bench fully expecting to make important decisions to impact the result. That 50/22 given the game situation at the time was fuckin epic, never mind the try or penalty. -

Overall we are tracking well. We have strength through the entire forward pack. When's the last time we could say that.
Last year DMac played well at 10. Why not use him. It's a mystery.
We are so much stronger now compared to the previous World Cup cycle and we lost that by a whisker. Glass half full.
Agree with all of that, except when we go to pieces now, we really go to pieces. I mean minutes 40-60 - WTF?

Yeah I watched bits of the series that essentially got Buck dropped. A solid victory over possibly the best Scottish team ever followed by a bit of a nail biter.
He wasn't at his best but by golly he was better than Beaudie and Ardie.

I'm not claiming that they are a bad side, but they have never beaten us and we are meant to beat them.
To rephrase then, you'd say that a good win over Argentina could be a 'statement performance'?
I think we should be setting our sights a little higher.

Nah
30 mins on top vs 50 mins.
They had a shot, but not this day
