It's come off the back of the review, which has massive input from players. I'm not sure how that translates to "oh it must be because SA are top of the rankings".

The question was: would this have happened if the ABs were ranked #1 in the world ?

Would Horner still be at redbull if Max won the championship?

@W32 this exact same thing, by all accounts this is probably more to do.with off field as it is performance and the bigger picture, selection, growth, development.

I see plenty of off shore pundits are looking at his win % and questioning the decision.

I'm not against Jason Ryan staying on as Tight Five coach as he has done a very solid there, but there needs to be a total clear out of the other coaches involved since 2024.

Virtually all aspects of the team went backwards in 2025.

    Including the Forward pack.

However, i wonder how much weight we can out on individuals and performances give what has xome to light.

Ryan did a great job up to and including Rwc23 but the forwards had a poor year last year.

I guess it will depend on the new regime but he has proven himself at this level.

@DaGrubster yeah under Schmidt/Fozzie Ryan had our pack humming, but since Razor, the pack regressed, probably coincided with a SA pack on an upward trajectory too, so does it all comes back to the culture Razor has tried to instill affecting everything?

Guess it may come back player reviews on him as well, although have to think he was central to whatever 180 Razor did on DP, not to mention the well discussed rumours of issues with certain players, could he remain with minimal selection input?

@DaGrubster yeah, another tough one. Ryan was very much a big part of the Razor "regime", so I'm inclined to think there's better options. Or was he just trying to keep his job?

I actually just remembered something that Goldie Wilson said on Breakdown. He hopes we go back to traditional All Black rugby, as we have drifted away from it.
Anyway, I just waiting to see who get's the gig now. I am a JJ fan, and had wanted him for sometime , just a feeling I have, no great knowledge or anything. And as much as anything , if he gets it who will he get in his group,

Is it fair to say Jamie Joseph was a bit of a grub as a player?

Remember a bit of biff from him against the English, not that I'll hold that against him.

Hell a bit of biff doesn't make you a grub mate. I never ever considered myself a grub, but had the odd friendly discussion on field without needing to use words. And never thought the fellas I needed to sort things out with were either, in fact the few times it did happen, I can recall always having a beer personally with them after game.
And certainly at top level if you were to call anyone a grub who gave someone a clip when things needed to be sorted , you would calling an awful lot of them that!😘

It still feels like a massive longshot that he ever gets the gig again though.

Won't happen. His supposed strengths are the very reason he got booted. This wasn't a case of not having unfamiliar skills - it's a complete grotesque failure of the very thing he was supposed to be best at.

It really puts into perspective the success the Crusaders setup has had .

Know it's unfair, but I have this nagging feeling NZR were conned.

I can see that argument, but what explains his success at the Crusaders?

Surely the guys that played under him there - Whitelock, S Barrett, Taylor in particular - would not have stood for him if he was a genuine conman?

Not sticking up for Razor here - the guy is clearly an intellectual midget with an over-inflated ego and looking at his AB stint in isolation, it's clear there's a bit of the chancer about him - but I just don't see how a genuine conman gets away with it for 7 years.

The other possible reason is, current Super Rugby isn't that much of a challenging competition.

A valid observation. With that being the case is Jamie Jo our guy?

Will the Springboks be more or less confident now for the 2026 AB series as compared to last week?

Fairly biting remakes from Smith. Not saying I agree it was a bad decision, but interesting nonetheless

A happier squad with a decent hands-on coach they respect will know they have to deliver the goods and pretty sure they will be up for it. Add in an NZR Board actually wanting to support the team this time and I think the omens are good.

May not be winning everything, but they'll be really up for the fight with the Bokke.

I've never warmed to Robertson's personality and always found it cringe-worthy when listening to him speak. Obviously there are reasons for that, some known, others perhaps not, but I wasn't surprised when reading what a sports journalist had to say about his press conferences:

"You can't really make sense of what he is saying. If that's what he is like to the media, what is he like behind closed doors?"

Apologies if this has been asked, but if the ABs were rated #1 in the world instead of #2, does the fern think he still would have been canned? Has this happened because a NZ coach (TB) is assisting Nzeds biggest rival and Kirk et al are thinking this is a genius move? Word is that it wasn't a player revolt so one has to think it’s because the ABs are not number one.
Or is this shake up because NZ rugby as a whole is in a shambles and Razor has effectively been the scapegoat?

I think it's less about NZ Rugby as a whole, and more that the All Blacks themselves were a complete shambles by their long term standards.

I've commented probably a few times now - Razor should have been sacked after the night of the Wellington loss to the Springboks.

Not because they lost, but because All Black sides simply do not give up with 20 minutes to go in a game of rugby.

The win percentage sometimes commented on (elsewhere) is a red herring. The All Blacks could be selected, enter a game week with no coaches, and ordinarily should still win a moderate-ish percentage, given some of their schedules.

SBW social media post reported in RNZ.

“This is just my honest thoughts and opinion, but I think we need a coaching group that knows how to connect before correcting. Because these players know how to play and we do have the squad," he said. Williams name-dropped Jamie Joseph, Tony Brown, Dave Rennie and Tana Umaga as potential heirs to Robertson”

He also called for Ardie to be made captain.

Tana is a potential for the new coaching team I haven’t seen suggested/discussed here as yet, unless I missed something?

I think Tana would be an interesting assistant - felt like he really found his niche there at the Blues when he took a step back.

Think one of the Cantabs on here said that Robertson had a falling out with Brad Mooar? Any other coaches he had major problems with? Seems we are up to three now.

According to Brad what happened is that he didn't agree with the culture Razor set (barbecues at Razors every Sunday with heavy drinking) and made that known.

If you ask razor or any of his supporters at crusaders hq what happened they will say it's because Mooar was a shit coach.

Apparently the call was 100% Razors to sack him anyway.

Not everyone in chch is a Razor fan. He's really milked that reputation as the "prince of Sumner" and acted like a fucking dick at times.

I do remember you being quite critical of Razor before he took the Crusaders gig many years ago now and you did make comment back then about his poor communication with fringe players despite results being very good at NPC level and obviously his success at Super level which you did give him credit for, but yeah, the poor communication part obviously reared its ugly head again the moment he stepped out of the Canterbury region.
