RWC: England v New Zealand (SF1)

Barrett has always been crap against well-executed rush defence anyway. Would have been worse with him at first-five.
-
People in this forum are great fans of Richie Mounga. He's had a mare : missed an easy tackle on Daly who is not the quickest fullback nor the strongest one (this led to England's first try), then could not handle the English rush defence. Let's hope he'll learn from this very disappointing performance.
The Bounga experiment was clearly a failure with BB's kicking from hand being an issue. Would DMac have done better ?@cgrant I agree Mounga didnโt have a good game. BB, while exceptional at times at full back does not have the greatest kick on him or it deserted him last night. Moving forward Harvilli seems pretty solid at FB and maybe BB back to 1st five. Of course we can play our typical game against any other team with Bounga, except England, and probably win.

One thing that would be really good going forward: the backline not being tinkered with every other week. Our midfield has suffered for that especially.

Can we get a welfare check on @mariner4life?

Haven't watched the game. Was at a great party. Only just woke up.

I was so simple in my wanting cathartic release.
I walked home from the stadium through deserted dodgy areas, no mugging.
I went to a standing bar, got thoroughly re-drunk, yelling โfuckโ at the ceiling once in a while. Much to the amusement of locals.
Then I went down to the riverside with a couple of drinks and cigarettes, found a gang of teenagers hanging out causing trouble. Sat down close to them, and when I got eye contact... gestured to the litter-mess they'd caused. They cleaned their shit up, and left.
What do I need to do to get beaten up in this country? I just want my body to feel like my mind does. -

No concerns with that loss. We were outplayed and Eddie Jones did his thing.
Never got the criticism of Itoje because heโs played like this before. Well done that man.
Look forward to seeing the ABs one more time against the Boks.

The criticism of Itoje is NZ rugby fan arrogance at its best.

I think it has been deserved previously.
... perhaps not now ...

Some of the ABs have cuts on their faces - is that likely to be dodgy play in the rucks or just bad luck?
-
Far from an excuse because you have to back up week after week,
But I do think beating Ireland in the manner we did , when they had become our recent bogey team ,possibly had Us overall feeling A little too comfortable with things .
If there was a return game against England next week , things might be different , but world cups donโt work like that .
Emphasis on not an excuse, We should know better , but part of the failure

Itoje has been on par with Retallick for the past three seasons.

Scoreline flattered us hugely. We were utter crap for 79 mins, basically.
Which was the 1 minute we weren't?
-
@booboo When Ardie scored. Couple of Goodhue runs, the odd decent tackle. That's about it for the good minute.
-
And what the heck happened in the lineout? We had 4 decent lineout options to their 2 but we were totally misfiring?
-
Great English performance, congratulations to the Poms. Our forwards were smashed and spat out.
Some thoughts.
One thing I did notice was how much bigger or built up the English forwards seemed to be. In the ABs case, is it too much speed work and not enough weights? Mmmm.....
It hurts but really, when you are beaten so comprehensively, sometimes you just need to sit back and applaud. They played great rugby and as a rugby fan, it was good to see a positively-oriented team win.
The backs can't do anything unless the forwards are doing their jobs.
Ironic that Ireland showed the blueprint to beat the ABs. We've had an obvious soft underbelly for a while lads. Writing was on the wall. Eddie was smacking his lips!
Shag. Thanks for the memories, you have been fantastic. Now, we need a new coaching line up. Said it then and I'll say it now, we needed one after the Lion's series. Maybe no candidates were available at that time. We need another "dream team". Tony Brown as attack coach please and definitely another forwards coach. Cron might be a scrum guru but he has to take some of the blame for a poor tight five recently.
And lastly, the silver lining. Can't wait for next year, a new look ABs and a new direction. Also, it will be good to shut up some of the arrogant kiwi supporters I have encountered recently. Cultural cringe! Wish some people would just stay at home. -
From our seats it was clear from the start that England challenged us up front and we were found wanting. We never looked like winning, in fact the score flattered us. The backs were neutered as a result of the forwards' inability to get parity

Wish some people would just stay at home.@Old-Samurai-Jack Cron, as you say "might be a scrum guru" but as he is not part of the selection panel does he have to take some of the blame for a poor tight five? He can only work with who the selectors give him and if who they give him are not up to it in the first place there is not much he can do about it.
