I do like his aggression but not this year. We need to run out the ABXV to give him experience at the next level.
I believe they will pick Frizell. I wouldn’t, but they will.

I dunno why, but they love having a few women beaters in the All Blacks.
MMT would be a selection I would be behind. That wont happen either though, I bet.
-
MMT plays like a fitter Sione Lauaki. I’d get him in there this year.

Though we've got a good 6/7/8 pool, there's a good chance he'll be in the squad, I reckon. Gives him a taste and lets the coaches have a closer look and might make a bench slot for later Tests. Think he'll be on the EOYT as well. Hope so.

In a few years time, when we are talking about Rieko as one of our best 13s, I’m planning on re-visiting this conversation.
I can understand the misgivings until this last year, when he has been the best 13 in NZ by a fucking mile.

That’s roughly 1.6 km for those who prefer their distances in metric.
-
@Tim and of those 3, Frizell is probably the least versatile, Jacobson the most versatile...so I think he's the other loosie.

I would think Jacobson is close to a certainty, I also believe that 7 loosies will get picked.

Yep but I not sure how to convert a country mile, and I think Reiko is best be a country mile!!

Could even be 8 if they want to bring another option into the fold. More likely 7 with someone like Finau or MMT training with the squad (assuming neither eligible for NZM)

Last year they selected 5 locks and 7 loose forwards but might only decide on 4 locks, and as @Crucial says, have extra cover at loose forward. Lord will be the 5th lock if they go that way, but could also miss out.
Will Vaa'i be considered an option at 6 in the squad? If so, that might change the makeup of the loose forward mix and make Frizell surplus to requirements.
-
36 players = 2 full teams less one outside back plus 7 'extras'
What I think will be close to the selection.
Props: Ofa Tuungafasi, Nepo Laulala, Ethan de Groot, Aiden Ross, George Bower, Alex Hodgman/ Angus Ta'avao
Hookers: Codie Taylor, Samisoni Taukei'aho, Dane Coles
Locks: Sam Whitelock, Brodie Retallick, Scott Barrett, Tupou Vaa'i, Josh Lord
Loose forwards: Sam Cane (c), Ardie Savea, Dalton Papalii, Akira Ioane, Luke Jacobson, Hoskins Sotutu, (MMT/Finau/Grace/Frizzell)
Halfbacks: Aaron Smith, Finlay Christie, Folau Fakatava (Weber and TJ to NZ Maori)
First-fives: Beauden Barrett, Richie Mo'unga, Stephen Perofeta
Midfield: Jack Goodhue, Rieko Ioane, Quinn Tupaea, Roger Tuivasa-Sheck
Outside backs: Will Jordan, Sevu Reece, Caleb Clarke, Jordie Barrett, Leicester Fainga'anuku
Room for one more. Either another prop or two of those bracketed loose forwards.

This is what I had a couple of days ago.

I think that NZM may be a vehicle for some 'fringe' or 'surplus' squad members. eg My 5 locks included Lord but if he is NZM eligible it could be better from him to return to play via that path knowing he can switch back at a moments notice.
That would open up space for 2 of those bracketed loosies -

Missed a lot of super rugby this year compared to the past .
Really enjoyed this thread to get me up to speed before the internationals start .
Lots of discussion around the backs and loosies which should be an area of strength given our depth .
How we looking in the tight 5 , that is still our area of concern yeah ?

Mainly props are the biggest concern, don't think we bad off with locks, or even hookers.

The locking problem is two aging greats, a good handful of inexperienced youngsters, and the often excellent Barrett who can't stop being a moron for cards.
