If the Warriors are going to lose they might as well lose with a Kiwi roster and develop local depth. No marquee Aussie will come to NZ so why bother signing average players.

@bayimports i reckon you have two options if you are at the bottom

Focus on defense, keep the score low, set effort standards, and build off that

      or

focus on your attack. score points. stress the opposition, and build the defense later. Neither is wrong

Warriors can't attack and won't defend.

I watched Trindall play for teh Sharks on Saturday, he had a whale of a game. He's their backup half, nothing more. Find those guys, young, bit of spark, want to play 80 minutes every week.
Stop this circle of failure that involves buying players that the other shit teams don't want, or old guys looking for a homecoming and a pay packet.

I read a great article the other day that summed it up. In club land you are either building a team to contend for a premiership; contending for a premiership; or sliding down after your window shut.
The warriors right now are none of those things. There was no window. we are not in contention. And the roster is chock full of guys who will not be in our next contending side. This is where you start your decision making.

The only reason Trindall is even playing is because the Warriors signed their best young half and since Metcalf made that decision he was not given another first grade chance since. In fact they have tried to get him to backflip out of his contract twice. Secondly the warriors signed Volkman who is still under 20 and was incredibly highly rated at the Roosters, if it wasn't for Walker he would have likely had a start. Now through various reasons we have not even see this kid play at seven, only six and he looks raw, but nevertheless neither are old players that no one wants so cant throw your logic over the squad.

Our centers are woeful and I don't see any improvement in the recruits. but we are not just recruiting guys no one wants

@bayimports no you're right we are not. but it does make up a lot of who we sign. I am waiting to see which semi-retired ex-kiwi we sign on $650k this year. Proctor is available, he played for NZ AND the Storm, he's overqualified.

As you say, we signed young fullas. play them! even raw would they be any fucking worse than SJ? Or has the entire club just written the covid period off? i have sympathy for that attitude.

The new coach has to basically rebuild the club if he wants any success. And all with the knowledge he will probably get fired before it bears any fruit

i was sort of wondering how Sticky's super loyal media mates were gonna defend this

So far i have seen "yes, but, charity work!"
"you can't suspend him, we don't live in China"
"this is really the NRL's fault for making coaches do press conferences"

The NRL fraternity - commentators, ex players, journos - run the greatest protection racket in sport. Say and do basically anything and you will have plenty of people running interference or selling your “good” qualities for you.

lol normally a terrible affair talking about trades etc, but foxsports "blog with hoops" session today was a funny read. James Hooper wrote the piece earlier making the statement, that Australia isn't China or Russia. Most fans let him and his media mates have both barrels today..quite an entertaining sledging session in general against the tone deaf media

                        that was a fun read.

You just know that absolute deadshit Hooper typed that with that stupid sideways grin on his face as if he's just said something really profound.

just hearing Eli Katoa to the storm, I know the warriors were shopping him around but I am surprised at this one, as he was going beast mode in the cup and obviously not coaches favourite, but this will be one guy who will be very strong in a different system. Shame, but all the best if true

Listening to Kent tonight and there seems to be more than meets the eye with this and his opinion is if Sticky comes out and explains what happens all those years ago the public tide would turn in his favour.

No matter what happened and it could be serious and it sounds like family members etc, all you need to do in a media conference when asked a direct question about the incident is to say “I don’t want to comment”.

Hard to tell what bogans will be swayed by, but I couldn't care less if Salmon murdered the Stuart's family dog. I'd quite happily believe Kent doesn't know either.

@antipodean Kent and Sticky are actually good mates, so whilst he talks smack most of the time I'm willing to listen in on this one. It looks like the NRL are trying to get ahead of it and will suspend him for a game regardless.

@antipodean Kent and Sticky are actually good mates, so whilst he talks smack most of the time I'm willing to listen in on this one. It looks like the NRL are trying to get ahead of it and will suspend him for a game regardless.

Considering the kid was 12 I can't even imagine what he could have done that justifies this.
