Eight minutes and three very good players succinctly pointing out the obvious.

it feels like we are at that point where, if it was lower levels, you just go back to basics. Shit hasn't been going right, your patterns are gone, everything is muddled, and the finger pointing starts.

A good coach chucks the play book out for a week and says "fuck it boys, this week it's basics". Smash on to the ball. Play narrower. kick a lot. Focus on the set piece.
Take all the cloud and doubt out of the players heads, and just play code.

We won't of course, we'll try to do the same shit "but better" but if ever i saw a squad that needed to clear their heads it is this one.

It feels like there's a real lack of detail in everything the ABs are doing (with the exception of Jason Ryan who has just got there and already made some improvements).

For example - the kick chase issue -we know we need to diffuse the high ball but there's no detail around making that happen - as Mils says in the video above - it starts from pressuring the kicker, then having support players in front of and behind the catcher - in other words there's a lot of detail around it and it's a team effort.

I just don't understand How Foster doesn't see the basics are not being done to any sort of decent standard. No game plan to counter what is coming at us by the opposition.Just a go out and play and hope strategy.
Anyone who has played rugby at any level can see what is wrong here but the HC can't.
Is he stubborn,Delluded or really hasn't a clue ,the Man played rugby at a decent level and has coached for long enough to work it out.

@Tim Twice now that Ioane has been subbed and Havili stayed on. I've got no fuckin' idea what Foster is thinking.

I haven't read the match thread, or this thread yet, but I am assuming with the injuries we may see Jordan at fullback and Mo'unga at 1st 5. Old man Coles was worse than Taylor so time to put him out to pasture. No reason not to select Newell either in the 23.

I couldn't agree more, watching the game live here in Sydney, alone in the wee hours of the morning, when I saw this I just couldn't believe it and turned to myself and commented...

Subbing off R. Ioane and leaving on Havili just made ZERO sense and that is why Foster, this useless sack of shit, yoghurt arsed, piston wristed gibbon should never have been the AB head coach and why he deserves to never coach a team again!

I know it wont happen, but this is the starting 15 I'd like to see:
              Bower, ST, Newell
              Whitelock, Vaai
              SB, Sotutu, Ardie
              Fakatava, Mounga
              Tupaea, Ioane
              Clarke, Jordan, Reece

Had the pleasure to watch your Paul Coll win two Squash gold medals at the Commonwealth Games

                His success was based on

                supreme fitness and conditioning
the patience and ability to play a very simple and structured game, slowly but surely moving his opponent around the court
And then when the opportunity presented itself, hit a winner

Often over matches lasting 90 mins

These are things that can be replicated by the ABs

Maybe get him and his coach in

@RoninWC it's fucked. The backline we finished the game with would be the laughing stock of most international teams.

I like it, hit the opposition in the balls, so hard they can't reach them.

Did I just hear correctly when Richie Mo'unga just said on the TV1 Sports news "If you are not a member of the team or squad I do not care what you think" when commenting on the helpful suggestions being made to try and right the rings of the Titanic like sinking that is the All Blacks?
Excuse me Richie, all financial members of affiliated rugby clubs to the NZRFU own the All Blacks so as a financial member of three of those clubs and a Life Member of another one you had better be careful what you say.

Full quote below (on the frustration of the fans). I'm with RM on this - they have to focus on being their best on Saturday. The critique from us won't help the players.
"It’s very fair. The team they support that usually gets results is not getting results at the moment. It’s fair for the fans to care, because they do… but it’s also fair on us to not care what they think because we have a role to play and a job to do, and hearing that isn’t going to help us at this moment.”

@nzzp looks like part of a longer interview:

“It’s very fair,” he responded. “A team they support that usually gets results is not getting results, and it’s fair the fans care. They care about our team and care about our results, but it’s also fair of us to not care about what they think because we have a job to do and hearing that isn't going to help us.”

“I’m chomping at the bit to have another crack, but I’m also at the point where the outside noise doesn't matter for me. It doesn't affect me. I’m at a stage now if you're not in our squad, I don't really care what you think, with all respect.

“I understand the fans and people out there can get frustrated with results. But we’re trying our best, and we know it’s not good enough for All Blacks standards. So preparations will be very deep to get the result this weekend.”

Asked if he felt the criticism was fair, Mo’unga nodded slowly.Later Mo’unga, who is clearly a conscientious fellow, reached out to clarify his comments about “not caring” what fans think. He meant to say they “weren’t bothered” by what people were saying.

Fair dues. It’s an important distinction.

@canefan thing is, a disciplined rush defence can get away with being slightly off side with the whole line moving together, all standing a foot off-side when they are all in sync, the Irish line is impressive to watch in that regard.

Luke Pearce seems quite hot on offside.

@MiketheSnow sound like the Springbokke. The bomb squad is our specialists.

In terms of simple game plan, yes.

                                    Bomb squad, no.

This is about doing the simple things well and not surrendering position or possession.

Keep hold of the ball for more than 3 phases
Commit opposition to the tackle and the breakdown
                                    Quick recycling

                                    Space will ‘magically’ appear

And if it’s not on, kick the leather off the ball and ping the opposition back either by structured kick chase or by kicking it dead

@MiketheSnow I was more thinking on the principles of Springbok rugby since day back when. Doc Craven describe Springbok rugby "maak eers voor sag, Dan slaan met die agterlyn" Not sue to describe it in English " soften up opposition with the forwards then hit with the backline"

Despite the kicking gameplan by Rasnaber which I hate more then anyone else, the Springbok bomb squad has been working and developed well since before the WC 2019. We saw that again on Saturday.

Will Jordan is in doubt for the All Blacks second test against the Springboks at Ellis Park this weekend due to a stomach bug.
