I think Stevenson and Roigard are already well in the mix. Some room in midfield for a 13 and for a 6 or 8. Don't think Aumua up to it though as lacks finesse skills imho. TUJ Sullivan or Poihipi maybe. Tom Robinson and MMT are both possible as is Lakai. Used to think Finau could explode into calculations too. Last bolter may be a young prop as I think Laulala Bower and Tuungafasi are not shoo ins. So Tamati Williams or Ollie Norris may get a chance as a big ball carrier. Numia may be too small.

I think a lot will depend on refereeing interpretations and law changes as to what options the coaches want to develop. If game speeds up then Roigard must be considered. If 8s get more running space off scrum then we need another bulldozer with legspeed. Maybe a 6 like Big Red can swap to 8 for some scrums? I do think a wrecking ball prop may be useful from tap penalties too.

Big search will be for a 10 with a reliably long clearing kick and accurate up and under. Unless Zarn plays 10 for blues that has to be BB RMo or DMac as only genuine contenders.

For a dark horse bolter I'd be taking Ainsley in the squad. Clearly Laulala is done for the ABs, Ainsley is experienced, good scrummager and far more energetic around the park.

BB and Mo'unga have been kicking dreadfully for the AB's over the last few years. Id kill for a Dagg in the team.

Jordie was that guy , but we need him at 12.

              PPP ?

Imagine the joy on the face of an opposition forward looking up and seeing he's running at Laulala, Moody and Parkinson. He'd probably run back again just to run past them twice.

Yeah, concrete feet for the first two, but PPP did not look that slow in the first three rounds. He is a massive guy who could bring something different in the second row, particularly in case of injuries. I suggested his name with a question mark because I am not yet sold on him. But I am not sold on Tuipolutu and Vai'i either as they would struggle against France, SA or Ireland.

he should have been - but really struggld to kick well from the back. It's annoying; his kicking shows glimpses, but hasn't been consistent at Test level

Agreed. His kicking and running from the back had some issues.

Not that he was bad at 15 but he's much more suited to 12.

@nzzp I thought there were 1 or 2 games his big boot was useful last year but then it seemed to start misfiring. .

On the propping side I want to seea work horse who is not afraid to get stuck in at the breakdown. The Northern teams are going to dominate up front, Williams and Norris are not grafters at the breakdown and nor is de Groot. Someone like Hodgman is more suited to the faster game and gives you some mongrel.
Another grafted is Numia from the Canes the kid is worth a look.

true, but no one else seems to be able to bang a ball.

Zarn Sullivan but he seems to have run out of time to get a gig.

Pick up your game! It took until your third sentence to bring his name up.

Our forwards are playing the usual one dimensional bullshit. Get a grafter in there and stop pandering to the Crusader Boys. Watch the France v England massacre and the way the Irish are playing. They are winning at the breakdown with attitude and not just relying on their loosies. Treat the thread for what it is and stop being a piston wristed gibbon. Hodgman should get a recall and Numia is a definite bolter. Tamati Williams is unfit and lazy around the paddock and the usual Moli is always injured. And de Groot on his best day only lasts a half.

@number9 well the thread is about bolters I thought, not discarded players who aren't exactly screaming out for selection.

Numia would definitely be a bolter, alas he'd be the smallest front rower in international rugby by a fair margin I imagine. You're not going to fight the giant Irish props by bringing in a midget who can throw a well timed pass.

Jordie was that guy , but we need him at 12.

he should have been - but really struggld to kick well from the back. It's annoying; his kicking shows glimpses, but hasn't been consistent at Test level

true, but no one else seems to be able to bang a ball.

Zarn Sullivan but he seems to have run out of time to get a gig.

Stevenson has a big boot. Another thing in his favour.

Stevenson 100% I'd probably pick him to start in the back 3.

Roigard to get some time, with a view to him being the long term 9

But this is the same as everyone else, so pointless post really...

@Bones you're right the thread is about bolters but when posters talk about Vaai and Tuipoulotu then it is beyond that. It is called semantics, stop being argumentative for the sake of it.

@number9 Not sure how you discard Norris as a grafter and include Hodgman. The latter's best is very good, but I think he lacks consistency and accuracy. The value of Norris is his work at the breakdown - he is a turnover winner - and his handling / ball carrying. Just not sure around his scrummage power. But, I think we need a high energy prop who does a whole lot extra. Numia and Williams are restricted by their size.

i'll throw it out there, Ainsley has looked very solid in the first couple of rounds
