My thinking is that he's the incumbent 15 - and that's where he will start off. If he's not there, in my mind he won't make the 23 because Mo'unga and DMac have both very clearly been much better at 10 than him this year.
Remember the hookers last year? I won't be in the last bit surprised if Barrett starts and DMac is lucky to make the bench.
And I expect @Victor-Meldrew to goddamn love every second of it if it happens.

Last reply about 8 hours agoNah. Different situation - unlike at hooker last year, there's plenty of experienced players at 10 & 15, most in reasonable form. No need for Foster to be conservative, ease a relative newby in and hope form returns.
Give BB a run by all means but if it confirms his SR form (or lack thereof) then for me it's BB on the bench at best.
-
The real question at 10 is Mounga or DMac.
BB shouldn't even be in consideration.
He can worry about trying to hold on to the 15 spot vs Jordan.@Frank said in All Blacks 2023:

Unless he excels in the one outing he'll inevitably get from Foster, he'll be worrying about his spot in the 23.

Nick Bishop on the money again, but I think the real question is who should be back up? IN that case DMac at 23 and Beaudy Left Right Out Half

Nice article - because it agrees with me
- but, way more analysis on the minutiae of Richie's play.About the only think Nick Bishop has missed is analysis of the "thumb grip"! (2003 called and wants its joke back!).

Ritchie's defence is way less revolving door these days too. Clear he's worked hard on that. Now if he could get his kicking up to DMac's standard...

@KiwiMurph what's a school

I'm not so convinced, I could be persuaded that he's maybe better at a covering tackle than he used to be, but he's typically 50/50 in the line (just off the eye test)

DMac doesn't lack for courage on D either. Throws himself about and not afraid to put his body on the line. Good to see.

It's his technique which is great to watch.

Clearly if it was just a missed call on the weekend of selection, they would have called him back.
Forster mentions texts, leaving messages, which intimates that he gave them the news even if they didn’t speak.
Foster with his hurt feelings is the one that needs cuddling. The other guys were probably too busy with their agents to manage a call back to thank Foster.
Could be right Grubs, but if their first action was to ring agents, they obviously weren't hurt, and didn't really care , looking for nect opportunity?
I know you taking the piss, but hells teeth I would be ringing to see what I could do if I really wanted in. If they didn't really want in deep down, well they perhaps weren't loss. You know the players who impress me? Ones who ring coaches etc during season etc to see if there are things they need to work on etc.
It’s just speculation between us mate of course but essentially the players have been sacked.
I threw my toys out the pram a bit on Sunday (must have been hungover).
Looking forward to the team coming together, improving and hopefully playing some great winning rugby this year.

@Victor-Meldrew copybook tackler around the legs , even in the days when he was a bit hit and miss with his decision making his defence was great , always admired that part of his game for a little fella.

Am I the only one to find Newell lucky ?
The guy has not played a single game this year and gets in. Jager would have been a better choice IMO.They must have the inside deck on his injury.
Any young fella who can go to South Africa
and push the bomb squads heads up their own arses has credit in the bank.Such a specialist position they want him in around the squad for the year. I imagine his name is already in pen for the RWC.
Ryan has been working with him for years in Canterbury.
As an aside. The interview his father gave when his boy was selected is one of the most “hit you in the feels” things I’ve ever seen. I welled up watching it.

Watched a podcast from the AB trainer who in a long conversation only mentioned two guys as athletes - Reiko and Newell. I think they rate him very highly.
He also said McCaw was slow and weak
…but kept going in the last 20 when others faded. -

I agree with reason, I feel dirty. Obviously he over eggs it, but still correct

I'm avoiding interviews with Fozzie as I don't want to increase my blood pressure meds, but has there been any mention of why Zarn Sullivan can't even make the NZXV?
I find it completely bonkers that the two best long kickers in NZ SS and ZS can't get a look in at the two levels they should be at. Our only big boot is the erratic JB who will be in the midfield.
Also, it's very weird that Aumua signs with NZR and then gets left out completely for a guy who has signed for overseas. Maybe he's a Razor pick for next year, the new Bunce/Smokin Joe?

Clear penalty to Fiji.

@Nepia The wrong thread to discuss, but Zarn looks to have missed out to Gilbert in the AB XV squad as one of the fullbacks. Love has been selected on last year's form, and how he played for the AB XV.

Zarn was eye catching for the Maori. How he and Sotutu are rated 5th best (or worse) in the country in their positions is beyond me.
