    Yes.

Watch him get interviewed by Jeff Wilson and Google will tell you he's nearly as tall as Jeff.

That's all true and it's fine if we are winning (and well) but we're really not.

At this stage in his coaching cycle, I'm not sure sticking with players at the very fag-end of their careers is the way to go - it just reduces the time he has to build the team he wants.

      Yeah - but, there's only a handful.

Cane and Perenara have already announced that they're gone - and there's only a handful of others who are possibly too old to go to the next world cup. Taylor, Tuúngafasi, Tuipolotu, Beauden, Havili, Reece and Telea.

When you line them up against Mealamu, Woodcock, Thorn, DC, Nonu - it';s only the wings that almost certainly won't make it because it's rare they get to 30.

I guess my point is that we've got tons of time.

I don't want to lose matches to develop newbies this year.

That's about 10 players though. And I'm not convinced Havili is the man for the future...

At the moment we're losing matches and missing opportunities to develop newbies.

@Chris-B Most of the NZ hookers aren't tall (< 1.83 m), and that includes those in the ABs. Some are obviously much bigger/heavier than others (ST). It's why Thompson could have been an interesting long-term option as he is a similar build to Marx. Slater is also on the taller side (1.86 m).

My dear, In the midst of hate, I found there was, within me, an invincible love. In the midst of tears, I found there was, within me, an invincible smile. In the midst of chaos, I found there was, within me, an invincible calm. I realized, through it all, that… In the midst of winter, I found there was, within me, an invincible summer. And that makes me happy. For it says that no matter how hard the world pushes against me, within me, there’s something stronger – something better, pushing right back. Truly yours, Albert Camus

I'm all for it - taller and bigger hookers.

But the coaches have told us for years that they try to pack on as much as weight as possible - especially in the tight forwards - without compromising performance elsewhere.

The harsh reality is that you can't make short hookers much bigger. That's a huge problem for Ricky and Kurt - among others.

                                Yeah - but, there's only a handful.

Cane and Perenara have already announced that they're gone - and there's only a handful of others who are possibly too old to go to the next world cup. Taylor, Tuúngafasi, Tuipolotu, Beauden, Havili, Reece and Telea.

That's about 10 players though. And I'm not convinced Havili is the man for the future...

I don't want to lose matches to develop newbies this year.

At the moment we're losing matches and missing opportunities to develop newbies.

                                Uhhhh....hello.....we've won 3 in a row.....

Against Australia and Japan. The sides ranked 10th and 14th in the world. Wippee-do!

I don't expect Dave to make the next RWC either.

But for now, the third best second five that's not him hasn't yet stamped his mark, so in the meantime I'm happy enough to have him there.

They're going to pick Jordie, Reiko and ALB for the next three tests, barring injury - and Dave and Proctor seem like the next best cover to me.

We can play another round of Super mrugby and see who stamps themselves in.

Is it more the 17 tests Dave has started at 12?

Lam started at 12 in the business end of Super Rugby and he was amongst the best players on the field.

Lam even looked excellent at 12 for the shithouse Auckland npc team.

It looks like a spot that suits his game.

He showed enough a decent selector would have given him a crack.

I don't think I'm going out on a limb here to say the average fan would be a lot more forgiving if we lost due to giving Lam a try over giving Havili a try.

But of course that wouldn't suit CB's narrative so we can ignore the more obvious example.
