They did some cool songs, none better than this one. Nice guitar licks.

Got an odd feeling about this squad. We struggled with frontrow depth last year. Really hope Tu'ungufasi is back, and there's a couple of strong signings.

Six is up for grabs. Who is the backup number 8?

    Will Funaki kick on?

Will Darry stay fit? Perofeta and Barrett?

A bit of uncertainty around midfield and back three.

    @reprobate said in Ireland v All Blacks - Chicago2:

@Mauss re the loose forward comparison vs Ireland - the red card has to make a big difference there. The Irish were buggered late in the game, they had to make a lot of tackles as you point out. Also the fact that it was Beirne, who is an extra loose forward for them, and one of their best.
Sititi came on and dominated late - looks like if you take out his carry metres, the Irish had more? So are we really doing the right thing with our starting loosies?

That, to me, just comes across as letting the Irish loose forwards off the hook rather easily. Aren’t Jack Conan and Josh Van der Flier both 50-cappers while also being British and Irish Lions? They should be able to lift for 20 minutes with Beirne off the field, after which he could be replaced. That’s not even mentioning another 50-capper on the bench in Caelan Doris.

Again, my intention wasn't to claim that the AB back row is particularly settled: blindside remains an issue while Savea’s eclectic positioning makes any loose forward combination a complex exercise. But, for now at least, there are a few things which are working, and that’s including Sititi’s performances off the bench. After a difficult start it would’ve been easy for a player like Sititi to spiral so the fact that he’s once again putting in performances – even in shorter bursts – is good to see.

It's far from perfect but it's also not quite a disaster either.

    Few thoughts

I'd rather have Bason over Tuputupu as the 3rd hooker.

Found it strange Kade Banks didn't get much opportunities this year and would kept him over the some of the current options.

Gallagher would have been handy to keep but obviously decided to leave, thought he had a good NPC campaign at 6 for Canterbury.

As I have mentioned there is no need to replace M Wrampling with another 6/8. It could and should be a no.7.

100% on that. It seems strange that this spot wasn't offered to the best local young talent in years.

If he was offered a full spot and turned it down, something is wrong.

@Canes4life Well he is a key player for sure, but some of this stuff is a bit over the top. He wasn't the best 9 on the field in his last game, despite the try.

Yeah, I felt it was odd that Roigard waited until the last 20 mins to run the ball. Pretty much all he did before that was pass, pass, pass.

I think he just needs to demand the ball and back himself to get the team moving forward more.

Am I misremembering also that he was pretty fucking sloppy to start with? I'm sure I recall passes going all over the show.

Yeah and a bit slow at clearing the ball, didn't seem to wake up until about 60 mins, needs to be better.

About the time our forwards actually started playing like forwards....

If only we could pick up Springer to replace Lowe.

We'd have the full collection of promising young wingers then.

Springer is a poor man's Lowe though, eh @Canes4life

5 try Springer, that mans unstoppable.

1 better than four try Lowe.

Thought Taylor got through a lot of work on defence and at the ruck.

I think he's probably our best player, but I didn't vote for him on this occasion because of the lineout woes.

Yup fair shout, hence why I was surprised that Holland got MOTM. Everyone involved is at faultfor the lineout woes imo.

Yeah, definitely seems to have a lot more intensity and passion, puts fucking everything into it. Bizarrely, the adversity he faced has probably made him into an AB star when he was looking more like a bit part Crotty type.

@Grooter yeah if we are willing to overlook a wingers lack of pace...

Plus, Tangitau can be taught new.systems and hopefully learn, Reece ain't getting faster, ever.

And maybe he can be taught how to force the ball properly too

Hopefully not by Ioane or Jordan.

Looking a fairly even Cup this year. Early indications suggest it's going to be a solid day, and it feels like it's getting its mojo back a little. Must be if it attracted @mariner4life all the way from Cairns...

we should just look out for the pile of empty bottles then?

Does seem to have more attraction this year though, not like previously but improved

Beehre, another graduate from the 2022 NZ under 20 squad. With what that squad has already produced, it's cool to think some standouts from 2022 have yet to fully hit their straps - Haig, Hotham, Higgins, and Bell. No wonder they smacked the Aussies. It's a pity we never saw them on the world stage.

@Fredsaua12 Assuming he is signed as a loose forward? Believe they have to specify each player, as they can only move into the team based on injuries in their subsequent position

Yes he is the Crusaders will not have Grace back until March and Kellow may miss the first month as well.
    Mathis may get game time.
