In touch and field of play are separate concepts. You can have one part of your body in the field of play and still be in touch. Howver if you are required to be outside the field of play then no part of your body can be inside the field of play. That's why they use separate terminology.

Excellent, apparently we should expect Hooper and Pocock again next week. That'll work.

It just might against England, though. The Poms play two open sides in Curry and Underhill, so less reason to abandon Pooper against them than against a conventional back row formation.

Well Ledesma will be ruing a few things right now, no doubt. They're going home because he made some less than sensible selections IMHO.

The coaching team for the USA are either shit at rugby or shit at man management - their gameplan should be simple: pound the fuck out of opposition 5m either side of the breakdown, and learn to maul. As long as the backs can tackle, you'll be competitive.

They've got some big units who can move at pace but from 10 out the ball skills are practically zero at this level. That won't come until the next decade has seen their domestic competitions grow, and kids starting to play from junior high upward.

And they need external influence in some of those coaching ranks, because just playing against each other will just create the same problem Australian rugby has: biggest kid wins.

Very easy to make the right call with hindsight, but I think if they had moved the kickoff forward three and a bit hours to 10:30 on Saturday morning Japanese time, then this game could have gone ahead and everyone would have got back indoors ahead of the typhoon arriving in Nagoya.

I would imagine, given the seriousness of the situation and the unpredictability of the typhoon, this was simply not possible. The authorities had to shut down the trains, and other utilities, the last thing on their minds was transporting rugby teams and their spectators to and from a ground in the middle of a typhoon warning zone

ALB and Jordie were the standouts for me, struggled to pick a third so didn't. Lots of players around the same level

I was the same but went for Frizell as my 3rd pick. The top tackler for the ABs, 2 lineout steals and a couple of decent carries. He's having a solid RWC so far.

He's going really well, as is Pat T. Those two hitting some form has given us some much needed depth at lock and 6.

I can’t believe I’m actually bothering to answer this, but... it’s because (a) there is an element of AVOIDABLE danger in collapsing a maul and (b) you can stop a maul by legally pushing it back, which is what makes the danger avoidable.

Compare and contrast that with the situation I’ve described above and you will see we’re not talking apples v apples here. In the tackle situation I’ve described above, the danger / illegality is completely UNAVOIDABLE given current directives around the tackle area. The only thing a tackler can realistically do in that situation is to not tackle.

Why are you being so obtuse? I already said that the team hasn't been able to stop the maul legally. So they should be allowed to collapse it right? Because otherwise that's not fair!

And, for the record, a maul can be stopped legally - it happens all the time and indeed several times in most matches. Again, your point about the mauls makes absolutely no sense.

Note that I have no opinion about his guilt or innocence in terms of a criminal charge. If the police find enough evidence for the prosecuting authority to bring charges, then he needs to face up to these like anyone else.

But the HRC and Equality Court is another matter.

On the send off . sin bin rule, I follow AFL which has none, and the players get harshly dealt with at a tribunal ,

like anything , there are positives and negatives,

you dont get games decided by the send off which is probably better from a spectacle point of view,

but you could argue the team on the receiving end of the foul play doesnt receive enough compensation , particularly if they have lost a player through that foul play , the team that plays them next it could be argued benefits , because of the suspension,

And it does open a window for a player in a big game to go a bit nuts knowing he wont be sent off

What about, automatic 7pt try, red player gets replaced, and sent to tribunal for a heavy suspension

I personally would like this given a trial, a 10 minute sin bin , except that player is gone for good, when the 10 is up he is replaced by someone from the bench.

It’s a bit of a compromise, games won’t be so harshly ruined so to speak, and that player cops a harsh punishment personally.

I like what was suggested above too, and add an automatic penalty try 7 points

@Nepia some people lack the mental capacity to recognise more than a handful of players. Trying to remember the names and actions of players from more than one team is a task too far for upper Southern islanders, it seems 😜
