Is there still room on the Warriors Black Caps bandwagon?

Unless you can provide at least ten years of fern related Black Caps support then no. Go and become a fan of Team NZ or Lydia Ko when she does well instead.

Sweet, sorted! I joined in Feb 2008 and have supported the Black Caps since then.

I'm still gonna need evidence. Loads of posts talking up Jesse Ryder as potentially our best batsman ever will be a good start. Also chronic whinging about Brad Haddin as the worst human being since Hitler won't go amiss either.

@MN5 but the Fern records don't go back that far! It's a conspiracy... Also, Haddin deserves his place in infamy, but let's not forget Greg Dyer here.

West Indies post a very chaseable 153 off their 20. Wait. Its a 50 over game? goddam!
thank the late Martin Crowe that this isn't an official ODI, cause we're gonna go for 400+

Hard to believe its the same bowling line-up sans Southee that ripped India, just no obvious plan or clue on how to deal with the Windies onslaught - serving up complete garbage - but then the coverage panned to our coaching crew, and you realise that Luke Ronchi and Craig McMillan are on staff - two gents with way more talent than I, but mostly under-delivered as cricketers and prone to rash and stupid in-game actions - and its all starts to make sense.

I guess the good news that's come out of that game is that Little Kane and Blundell have got some batting form going into the first CWC game - as, probably, has Rossco.

We probably got some just desserts in terms of our lack of preparation going into this game. If you look at the runs scored by our players since March (including this game) in any form of cricket it makes sad reading.

        Guptill 108
        Nicholls 30
        Kane 294
        Ross 250
        Blundell 207
        Neesham 74
        CDG 26
        Santner 51

In contrast, Shai Hopes has scored almost 600 runs in May playing warm up games for the CWC.

I guess our guys are unlikely to run out of steam and if we can muddle through and win our first three games vs Sri Lanka , Bangladesh and Afghanistan we have time to find some form.

@MN5 Oh yeah. Test average was ok. But I agree ODI average not good. I remember him being pretty brash, almost like a prototypical McCullum but nowhere near as good.

@canefan I think he also tried to force the tempo of the game a lot, and that often meant him taking more risks. Did love his bowling aggression though, had the attitude of a guy sending them down at 140km/hr+ lol

I think more of a feeling that when we needed him to stand up, mostly he didn't aside from the occasional belter and the fact he was occasionally brilliant left me feeling like maybe he could've been more brilliant more often.

But the pace ace with the high-armed action expects to be back to his best for the World Cup defence where the Kookaburra ball will be used.

that was more of a cool down match than a warm up for the Black Caps, even would have fancied my chances scoring a few off them. Well done to the Windies though, they could be a bit of a dark horse in this tournament, would have to check cricinfo but I suspect they have a pretty good record in England, if records mean anything. What would be the Black caps plan - bat first at all costs or prefer to chase?

He'll be pleased that's not an official ODI - otherwise he'd be holding third spot in the "most expensive 10 over spell ever".

Worst is 0/113 by an Australian called Mick Lewis, whom I can't recall and not surprisingly, since he didn't play again after that.

@Siam He might have taken a record for the longest six balls with that over, as well - if he'd needed them.

McCullum and Vettori batting needing six off the last over - a few years later they'd have done it at a walk.

And Michael Clarke largely derailed us with a run out. Having watched that has set him back another five years before I'm willing to countenance that he's not a fluffybunny of the first water.

In fact, you should be bloody banned for posting that! πŸ™‚

@Chris-B hell of a run out wasn't it.

I'll take my banning with the grace of an ANZAC 😁

Back on topic, a day before it starts, this world cup has 7 teams that could take it. Windies and SA have the batting and Pakistan at home are worth a cheeky tenner! πŸ˜‰

Back on topic - I'm wondering who is going to make the XI for NZ's first match.

In my mind there's a good case to convert Tom Latham back to being an opener and play both him and Blundell. It's not like Nicholls or Munro has played themselves into compelling form ahead of Latham.

Bowling against the Windies was largely a shitshow. I'm inclined to think that Henry may have played himself out of the XI, so maybe we will see: Guptill, Latham, Williamson, Taylor, Blundell, Neesham, CdG, Santner, Southee, Ferguson, Boult.

Possibly worth considering Sodhi to take CdG's place - especially if there's any hint that spin might be a good option.

Why would we pick Blundell ahead of Nicholls? Surely Nicholls has established himself in the team. I don't care what he scores in the warm ups. He has earned the right.

Given how bowlers often go for big runs in their 10th it's lucky that Henry only got to bowl 9 ....
