@ARHS He must be a long-term project though, because he's no where near SR quality, yet.

    Hes 19. give him time.

Well that’s the fucking point, why’s he getting selected if he needs time?

Because if the Canes don't sign him another team will.

Why would another team sign him if he needs time?

So professional rugby started in the mid 90s, it's a thing.

@Nepia this is pretty funny. Hawkes Bay don't even think he's good enough to start in the 10 jersey, what makes you think McClutchie is good enough for a Super contract. He hasn't set the house on fire so far...

Why do the Canes annoy you?

He set the house of fire as much as Love did at the same age.

As for why the Canes annoy me, have a read of your response to @Higgins

@hydro11 yeah but you don't see me harping on about Wellington player Teariki Ben Nicholas losing out to Hawke's Bays Devan Flanders. Province only plays a small part in signings, the players still have to perform..

Of course you wouldn't, your province always has the bulk of the spots in the Canes. A few years ago the Magpies had nearly 15 Super players, and only 3 of them were in their home franchise the Canes (and one of them was probably Ben May).

@mikey07 he's a good solid player. I wonder if they've signed him as an 8 or 7.. Probably similar to the Ardie Savea mould, not the biggest at 8 but he's powerful and has a high skillset.

                Hopefully he's taken Taramais spot.

So that's our loose forwards sorted for next year. Not much size looking at the list, the Canes are obviously looking to play up tempo next year.

@mikey07 Iose hasn't played much over the last few years because of injury, so I've not seen much of him in recent games. He looked promising when I saw him play, but not Flanders-like promising, if you get what I mean. I wonder whether he replaces Taramai? I think I saw on instagram that he's on the move (MLR??). I may be wrong about that though.

                        So the Canes need:

                        • two more halfbacks (one as a replacement for Booth)
                        • 1 lock (assuming that will be Isaia Walker-Leawere)
                        • 1 prop
                        • 1 outside back (hopefully that's Salesi Rayasi)
                        • 1 First five / or 1 outside back (depending where they want to use Ruben Love)

@Canes4life If you guys are correct Tofa will take the outside back spot, Rakete-Stones should get an extension as he will only get better with age.I’m kinda hoping we can get Lord just for his height unfortunately IWL will miss out which sucks as I’d rather have him them Blackwell.
As for the 9s Campbell and Collins as a replacement

@mikey07 I think IWL will get that locking spot, Lord looks Chiefs bound and he's too tall for the Canes anyway. 😉

Iose is a decent signing. From the Manawatū games I've watched, I've always thought he looked good.

That was the one anomaly year, clearly someone did there math wrong - "yes Blackwell is 2m and yep we've got our quota of Magpies, wait what, Blackwell isn't 2m and there's 6 Magpies plus May. You're fired!".

So that's our loose forwards sorted for next year. Not much size looking at the list, the Canes are obviously looking to play up tempo next year.

                                      Gareth Evans
                                      Ardie Savea
                                      Devan Flanders
                                      Du Plessis Kirifi
                                      Brayden Iose
                                      Vaea Fifita

OK options. But Flanders (or someone) really needs to step up and replace Prinsep. And I still prefer Fifita as a lock

I haven't watched many Manawatu games but, as far as I am concerned, their only loose forward to catch my eye was Tyler Laubscheer.

It looks like my sauce was good on this one.

Four years after getting his big break with Bay of Plenty, Luke Campbell is set to return home to fill one of the Hurricanes’ halfback vacancies in Super Rugby 2021.

The Hurricanes declined to confirm or deny the Campbell news on Sunday, having announced utility back Ruben Love and loose forward Brayden Iose as signings in recent days. Full Aotearoa squads are scheduled to be announced on December 3, and the Hurricanes said any new additions would be made public then.

Booth’s injury was expected to sideline him for at least four months, making him highly unlikely to be available for the 2021 opener against the Blues in Wellington on February 27.

As it stands, Counties-Manukau’s Jonathan Taumateine is the only fit halfback on the Hurricanes’ books.

Campbell made his name in the capital, playing first XV for Wellington College and making the New Zealand Under-20 side in 2015 under the coaching of Scott Robertson.

He won a Jubilee Cup with Old Boys-University that year, alongside Wellington and Hurricanes winger Wes Goosen, then was snapped up by Bay of Plenty coach Clayton McMillan for the 2016 season.

Campbell was first-choice No 9 for McMillan this season and kept former Hurricanes and now Chiefs halfback Te Toiroa Tahuriorangi out of the starting lineup for Saturday’s semi, a 19-10 defeat in Nelson.
