Kaino-esque is certainly not a term that should be used to describe Frizell's defence. Luatua wasn't exactly a big hitter before he left NZ either, but based on the games he has played for Bristol this year, it looks like he has upped his defensive game a fair bit.

I thought Frizzel was outstanding on his first start and was on par with rest of forwards for second start

You mean when the game when he ran off rucks like Fifita? 😉 He did put in a good defensive shift against the Argentinians over there - although it's interesting what style of game he would have played if Whitelock was available.

@Chris-B Would he make your starting lineup?

        Frizell?

Yeah - we've got about half a dozen 6/8s out, so he'd bolt in at present.

If everyone was available? We can field Squire and Taufua so in all seriousness, he'd probably be on the bench! 🙂

Luatua can play at Nr.8 so he might fit as Read's cover, the other options being not too flashy.

@cgrant Going by the article that was posted in the 2019 Blues thread, Luatua isn't likely to come back any time soon. He's happy to stay at Bristol if they want him.

Fake news. No way can he even think that returning in June will give him a realistic chance of an AB place.

Now there's a loose forward that would be valuable to have back in black - Vctor Vito. I would say he left too soon. If he'd hung around, irony is that right now Shag would probably draft him in as first choice - no questions asked

I think if Victor was back here he may be a bit more than a Highlanders bench option so could well be overlooked.

@shadowtrooper I am sure that both are with the Hurricanes. Procter signed recently and Leawere was there last season. I think Proctor is only 19 and Leawere 21 so both good prospects.

Victor Vito has done well at La Rochelle. I think if he returned to NZ he'd be ahead of Luke Whitelock and Shannon Frizell:

@tim That's not what it says in the article, but I think he can indeed be confident that he'll get one.

In terms of what might lie ahead contract wise, Rayasi is as relaxed as a young man can be in this position. He feels like he's done the work on the field, bought into the culture Ieremia has established with Auckland, and now must await the results.

@kiwimurph How good was his annoucement fending off thorn. I would feel bloody good throwing a shot like that for someone who cut me. Fuck being the bigger man.

Glad hes back I want aussie rugby to be as strong as possible because it only helps NZ rugby in the long term.

Also don't we let Aussie win the super rugby and condensed RC in RWC years to lull them into a false sense of security.
