@Canes4life I just watched that video.

Terrifying to see him lose a number of collisions and his body positions a couple of times are not good.

@sparky I initially posted the wrong link, did you watch his performance in Hamilton or the one in Dunedin?

Because for me he made massive improvements in the Hamilton performance compared to test 1 and test 2, especially his ball carrying.

I think he will get better and better as he comes more accustomed to test footy. He was the best 7 by a distance in NZ during Super Rugby so the coaches are obviously happy to give him time.

@Canes4life The one that's there now.

And "he improved a bit", even if it's accepted, isn't a compelling argument for handing a player the All Black 7 jersey.

The Argentinians are going to target our openside at the breakdown and tackle area big time on Saturday. I hope he's up to the task.

Not such a fan of the 7 and 8 set up. Mainly on size, but also I'd like to keep Ardie at 7.

Would have gone Jim on bench over ALB, although I think the dislike of the latter is somewhat over stated.

Otherwise, difficult to whinge too much, except for just wanting too.

Well only one way to find out about Kirifi. Glad he gets a starting shot, I don't know if he will be successful or not at test level, but I'd like to find out. And a few min off the bench is not going to tell us much.

He started 7 in the 3rd test vs France as Jacobson went down in warmups

He'll be fine IMO. At least we'll know one way or another. He deserves his opportunity. Others that have been in the jersey over the last couple of seasons haven't taken their opportunities so no point continuing with players that have failed to deliver. I expect Kirifi to keep getting better and better the more he plays at this level, if he doesn't then I'm sure the coaches will find someone else.

I have no real issues with that starting backline (it picks itself)

Disagree. For all the ALB hate by some on here, the fact that Reece continues to be selected is more of a problem. It's not like he has been scoring tries for fun for the ABs and running sideways or making ineffective pick and goes doesn't work at test level. FFS give Narawa an opportunity.

@Bovidae yep, while his workrate is up there, too often he goes in ahead of the 9, potentially stifling anything out wide because you know he is going into traffic or crabbing taking away the space.

Kirifi and Savea starting. Good to match up against the Argies who reply on mobility and pace rather than size.

Six of our forwards are going to have to work their arses off.

I don’t think that has been a problem this year because when he has done it, it has offered something different from the base. Roigard has run very little which I think is to our detriment.

As for the team, I’m hopeful that DK will be able to have more of an impact but would’ve preferred Ardie at 7.

I think their loosies are actually better than ours, but our tight 5 should dominate enough to neutralise that.

@Jet maybe not “bang the doors down”. But they’d make Ireland’s 23.

Beauden easily starts at 10 for them. Prendergast is crap.

I pretty happy with team. Kirifi will be fine, he was bloody good in 3rd test against French, not a little better etc. His stats were off the charts, and alongside Holland was most effective forward on field at ruck time etc. I have no probs with ALB on bench either, we all like Jim the Dif, bur reaslistcally he was a little overwhelmed in French series, I not convinced he as good coming off bench as when he starts.

I expect Kirifi to keep getting better and better the more he plays at this level, if he doesn't then I'm sure the coaches will find someone else.

Unfortunately for Kirifi, I don't think he'll be given the opportunity. If all the loose forwards are fit, he's out of the 23.

I think he is physical enough for an international 7 , his lack of size is more a height thing, he is built like a brick shithouse even if short, he doesn’t get monstered in contact ,sometimes his lower body height works to his advantage.
I agree , it’s about the collective balance , genuine ball winners in the air at 6 and 8 and it’s not an issue .

Kirifi struggled in the first quarter but grew into the game and had a good 2nd half.

Overall this 23 is a bit meh. The tight five remains a strength.

Apart from Savea, JB and Jordan there are question marks over the rest of the players outside the tight five.

Vaai shows much promise at 6 and now we will seem tested against tougher opponents than France B/C.

Jury is still out over the rest apart from Reece who shouldn't be there.

BBs passing has improved but his kicking still runs hot and cold.
