Apologies if this has been asked, but
My 2c
if the ABs were rated #1 in the world instead of #2, does the fern think he still would have been canned?
Difficult to determine, and a moot point. I kind of think yes as the KPI that failed IMO was not results. If the team was not dysfunctional the results would likely be better.
Has this happened because a NZ coach (TB) is assisting Nzeds biggest rival and Kirk et al are thinking this is a genius move?
Irrelevant
Word is that it wasn't a player revolt so one has to think it’s because the ABs are not number one.
See above.
Or is this shake up because NZ rugby as a whole is in a shambles
Contributing factor.
and Razor has effectively been the scapegoat?
No. There were specific reasons for his removal.

Fairly biting remakes from Smith. Not saying I agree it was a bad decision, but interesting nonetheless
The win percentage is a red herring.
DMAC twinkle toes away from losing to Scotland.
Harsh red against Beirne in Chicago changed that game. (Beirne was Lions player of the series)
George ford hit post with a pen and fluffed a drop goal to win in Twickenham in 2024.
Beat France C 34-27 AT HOME.
The Boks beat us by 33, we beat them by 4. (Ardies last minute turnover in our own 22 saved a loss).
Beat Australia 31-28 in the 2024 Bledisloe.
Beat England by 1 point in his first match. We went life and death with everyone (even when we won), and under Razors tenure shipping 20 points became the norm. In our losses it was quite often 30+.
It was squeaky bum time every fucking Saturday.
Yup and biggest problem all along was D.
just never stopped shipping points - gave up 26 to Wales.

I've never warmed to Robertson's personality and always found it cringe-worthy when listening to him speak. Obviously there are reasons for that, some known, others perhaps not, but I wasn't surprised when reading what a sports journalist had to say about his press conferences:
"You can't really make sense of what he is saying. If that's what he is like to the media, what is he like behind closed doors?"
Agreed - a point I've made before. Add to Razor's incoherent ramblings the manglement of Scott Hansen and it's no wonder our teams looked utterly confused in the second half.

I actually just remembered something that Goldie Wilson said on Breakdown. He hopes we go back to traditional All Black rugby, as we have drifted away from it.
Anyway, I just waiting to see who get's the gig now. I am a JJ fan, and had wanted him for sometime , just a feeling I have, no great knowledge or anything. And as much as anything , if he gets it who will he get in his group,Is it fair to say Jamie Joseph was a bit of a grub as a player?
Remember a bit of biff from him against the English, not that I'll hold that against him.
Hell a bit of biff doesn't make you a grub mate. I never ever considered myself a grub, but had the odd friendly discussion on field without needing to use words. And never thought the fellas I needed to sort things out with were either, in fact the few times it did happen, I can recall always having a beer personally with them after game.
And certainly at top level if you were to call anyone a grub who gave someone a clip when things needed to be sorted , you would calling an awful lot of them that!
Ever break a bloke's ankle by stomping on it?

I remember an interview with razor when he first got the job and he mentioned Robbie deans as being his biggest influence as a coach , fair enough , he was a very successful coach that he played under .
But then remember the news broke years after deans failed in his bid for the AB position, that mcccaw actually gave his support to Henry over deans as ab coach when interviewed, and the negatives for deans were he could be divisive, burnt assistant coaches , it’s his way or the highway etc . And he thought Henry was better at bringing everyone together.
Does sound a bit all similar.

Yes.
No
Yes, but No.So much more succinctly put than me.

be interesting to see were robertson ends up
to quote him from when he was courting for the job
bullaI saw some Harlequins fans commenting on Reddit yesterday that they’d like him to come to their club, and it was also mentioned by a Ferner yesterday that Quins were mentioned.
Harlequins rumour is all over the UK press - inc. the quality papers.

Looking forward I've had a thought about appointing a captain and whether that is necessary.
May have mentioned it and I'm sure the eventual head coach will take this on board but ... don't appoint a captain.
Appoint a senior leadership group.
Allows you to pick a XV/XXIII free from being obliged to pick certain bloke. Once you've got your team, then appoint a captain(s). And feel free to sub any of them on or off.
Am thinking along the lines of (retaining) Scooter, Paddy T, Ardie, Codie, someone in the backs...

Maybe bring some of the younger guys through too ... Vaa'i, Sititi, Roigard...

@booboo yeah i think both Fozzie and Razor painted themselves into a corner by announcing Captains before the season started (was it even before picking the 1st squad??)
This season looks to be the most "exciting" for some time.

The team needs a fresh start. I'd pick Wallace Sititi. ( despite a less than impressive second season )
He doesn't look like captain material to me yet
Taylor is 35 this year. S Barrett isn't up to it. Ardie is trouble.
I reckon Sititi is a definite option.
Other options aren't exactly aplenty.

When Dalton Papalii is there to do the heavy lifting he'll shine again.
Too early for Wallace and Roigard IMHO but they def. need to be in the Snr Mgmnt group. Scooter never looked comfortable to me and wonder if he'd like to give it up.
Think they'll want to have some stability so probably stick with Scooter,r Ardie or take a punt on Codie.. If JJ gets the nod then Paps a possibility.

No thank you on Wayne Smith coming back. He was helping Razor during the SA games.
Hansen & Fozzie's team in Japan is crap (they almost faced relegation to D2).
All these guys coaching is outdated IMO.
Take your point, but we do need a few grey-hairs in the camp - even if not assistants.

For me that's sufficient evidence that the benefit of Wayne's presence has exhausted itself. He's tainted as a mentor by the outcome of the review when he fixates on the winning percentage and not the manner of the play on the field.
He may be a nice guy who genuinely feels for Razor, but he's also the person who said it's what the stats don't tell you you see for yourself.
I like how Razor's win percentage keeps increasing.
But yes, time to move on from Wayne Smith. The issues behind the scenes were damning and you don't just lose your gig as head coach for no reason.

Exactly. Coaches become past it too. The game keeps moving.

@hikastags Evolution rather than revolution is what we need.
I've always been really impressed with Steve Hansen's skills as a selector and in man management so I'd love to see him with something like the selector/mentor role that Brian Lochore had early in the Graham Henry era, although he's no longer a Head Coach.
Steve Hansen was voted by his peers World Rugby Coach of the Year four times.
We have guys with knowledge of leading successful World Cup campaigns, we'd be stupid not to tap into that a bit.
