I understand Lord's selection on the bench as Razor and Ryan probably want to target the Argies LO which was a weakness during the Cordoba game. If Holland is substituted, then Lord could fill his role perfectly as far as the lineout is concerned. But Lord can't be compared to PT in terms of physicality, ball carrying and maybe of power in the scrums.
I understand Lord's selection. He's below Holland, Scott Barrett, Patrick Tuipolutu, Tupou Vaii (who is preferred as a 6 now anyway) and perhaps Sam Darry on the locking depth chart, but he's ahead of anyone else and Lock is a position where injuries are frequent.
He's an excellent lineout practitioner. Having him Test-ready and not tempted to disappear overseas is a big bonus.

Yeah that’s how I see it , just a case of next man up .And they might give holland a spell , he’s played a lot of minutes .
And getting experience into him won’t hurt long term .

He’s not a power lock. Would go well with Patty T, and to an extent Scooter.

He’s not a power lock. Would go well with Patty T, and to an extent Scooter.

Power locks are not legions in NZ : IWL and PT are the only ones that come to my mind. Beehre is a grafter but not a powerful ball carrier. Gallagher has the physique but does not use it as he should do. Vakasiuola is a good prospect. -

Beehre had some of the best attacking stats among the locks last season super season. Carrying, defenders beaten, and post contact metres were impressive.

Patty T, after being poor technically for much of his career, came of age as a scrummager behind Renata under Cotter.
Scooter, who is a world class LH scrummager, has made good fist of moving to TH as required, a la Big Sam.
Vaa’i has developed into a top quality TH scrummager. -
I can’t say I’ve noticed how Parker defends. Assumed solid, and neither a thumper nor a scragger. @Bovidae?

A little bit of all of the above, to be honest. I wouldn't say he regularly puts in big hits but he has smashed a few ball-carriers in the past. He isn't the lightest on his feet (not without a bit of time to build monetum) which mean he sometimes has to scrag players who are going around him.

I recall that and IIRC the coaches persisted with Cody in an attempt to play him into form. With the benefit of hindsight I'm pleased they did because his form over the last few seasons has been phenomenal.

Yep seems sometimes the coaches actually know what they dealing with.
I recall the Taylor is useless, too old etc etc from quite a few at the time.
Players have slumps inform , it's a fact, not everyone is on top of their game all the time. I remember early in 2015 there were quite a number suggesting McCaw was a spent force too, and coaches were only picking him as he was favourite. -

That doesn't mean we can revise the history of his poor run of form and say that it didn't happen because he is good again now.
Anyway, awesome achievement to get to 100 tests.

He was, he had an awful run in around 2020-2022, he deserved to be called out for it and I thought he was finished then. He's come back well.
