Technical advisor for the ABs would be great for Schmidt. Or skills coach. He wouldn’t need to travel so much. ABs need someone to take over from Wayne Smith in the innovation stakes. Could do a lot worse than Schmidt. He creates high performing environments. Maybe Director of NZ Rugby?

Joe Schmidt is going to be living back in NZ. Whether he would take the AB's Head Coaching job, given personal matters, is not certain.

This is how Rieko Ioane played at the 2023 World Cup on attack (under Schmidt). He was bloody good:
Now the shit coaches have him out of form on attack. He is still our best defensive back by far though, and dropping him for Proctor was moronic. He was our best player against Ireland last year.

I can't recall, but I thought we had a habit of starting poorly and coming back in the final quarter under foster? That final quarter under Robertson is the elephant in the room. So much for headspace.

We didn't panic in the last quarter though. We gave up.

I think Va’ai and Holland are the starting locks. Patty T (when fit) is the impact lock (and brings leadership off the bench). That is tough on Scott Barrett, but he needs to work himself back into form and being a starter.
Which means ABs need a new captain. And I’m not sure who that is. I don’t think it should be Savea, because again the coaches need to get the backrow balance right.
Cody Taylor maybe in the interim? When fit, he’s a certain starter. If not Taylor, then who? Because there aren’t many players in the squad that scream certain starter and inspirational leader

The player led approach instilled under Henry requires leaders in the team to hold each other to account. I get the impression that leadership team is based more on feels than pragmatism at the moment. Which means management have to take more control of the players as they are struggling to make good decisions on the pitch.
Strip the game plan back and make things a lot simpler. Build from the basics. And no chip kicks in your own half!

@Bones Depth in the 23 isn't up to it. Our bench is often shithouse, and our starting loose forwards are dire.
In NZ we definitely have the depth, if it is selected.

Regarding Jamie Joseph as an AB coach: has produced some terrible results (worst team in the competition) and has overseen a squad with serious criminal problems. Would be a massive risk for NZR to let him anywhere near the team.

He would need to be part of a team, not necessarily the head coach.
