You look at that fucking pukey video they did on him around the Mt when he got the job and you just want to see people fired inside and outside NZRU.

The fanboy wankfest of that made me want to spew.

Utterly embarrassing and indirectly very insulting to Ian Foster.

I don't think it was indirect.

Another quote from the article @tim linked to

But Robertson’s vision was never for him to undertake the tasks that most would agree constitute the role of head coach – setting the overall playing vision for the team and then overseeing the delivery of that plan.

Instead, Robertson pitched himself as a culture coach, responsible for theming campaigns, communicating one-on-one with players to manage their expectations and career progression.

As Robertson confirmed to the Herald this week in Cardiff, it is his assistant, Scott Hansen, who effectively operates in the role most would recognise as the head coach.

the question needs to be asked that if Hansen had applied to be the head coach in 2023, would he have been given the role?

That is one of the most bullshit things I have ever read. Head Coach FFS.

Worth repeating, this is why Leon MacDonald left. He believed he was going to have more of a say but then discovered he was effectively reporting into Hansen.

That's a fascinating article - confirms a lot of what has been suspected.

Mainly that Mark Robinson has a lot to answer for. That simpleton has singlehandedly ruined NZ rugby.

Something you heard from a source or read?
If Hansen has that much power he should have applied as head coach.

It's all starting to make sense now.

There's a golden rule politicians know about trying to use the media - Ride the tiger and the tiger will eventually eat you.

NZR should've kept the RWC 23 team.

He could have had Razor as assistant "Cool Uncle".

I'm really quite shocked but it does tie together some disturbing patterns. Mostly around the backline.

If the NZR are such nimwits that they don't have decent controls they should all resign or retire en masse.
If Razor had enough power to make them appoint him to a contract until the end of the RWC but he isn't really head coach then he should have the power to actually lead. On the other hand the contract might be contestable, they're employing him as head coach not an assistant.
I agree with Whitelock, they should build their teams after being appointed (I think that is what he wrote).

Razor is banking on the Saders to be back to their best in 2025 and that there will be a few players making a breakout seasons. Just my thoughts. Saders are seldom as bad as 2024, and they still have a lot of developing players coming through with a point to prove.

This aged well! The AB coaches, not so much.

Sell, to be fair, I was.

7 championship wins in a row is a good record.
Losing 5 out of 6 internationals in a row is not.

Sam Whitelock: 'All Blacks were not being coached well enough'

All Blacks legend Sam Whitelock has opened up on the tumultuous period under Ian Foster which saw two members of the coaching staff replaced.

“We were not being coached well enough,” Whitelock wrote in his autobiography Samuel Whitelock: View from the Second Row. “We needed to change. I recognised that after the northern tour at the end of 2021, when we were well beaten by France and Ireland and, in my opinion, had prepared too many excuses for our under-performance."

Is it a good read, his book? I like his perspective. But it sounds like none of Foster, the NZR, or Razor are the answer.

The team improved markedly once they got quality assistants.

The lesson, especially as it pertains to Schmidt, in my mind, is that we need to have at least one assistant who would be chased by international teams.

The successful AB coaching teams have had such talent.

Which raises the question: Would any of these assistants be a strong candidate for Australia? Scotland?

Apparently Razor said he was going to head overseas so NZR bent over and signed him instead of letting him leave. That's looking increasingly like a poor decision

He always struck me as being a Ra Ra guy. But I assumed he actually coached his teams. Fire Hansen, install another assistant/HC to steady the ship

It's hard to think of a coach who has had so much goodwill going into the job and tanked it completely.
