@bones skips my memory. Do you have someone in mind to make your point?S

Is there a player that has been in more camps (or just behind the scenes involvement) than ever?

So I am missing your point. He has been i nvolved in a lot of camps and overlooked for game time. So he gets a participation trophy and a place in the Maoris team for a exotic adventure to the US, Chile and Brazil. Excellent opportunity to work on his work ons whatever they are.

It seems so. Look, has Ioane come out and had a whinge? Does anyone actually know what's going on behind the scenes? How do we know the zoo aren't keeping him close, communicating with him, scheming and planning on surprising the rugby world at the RWC?

He is a unique player and offers some very different qualities to a lot of what is in the ABs and international rugby right now. If they're confident they can put something in place to get the best out of him and time it to be something that other nations can't really plan for, why shouldn't we let them have at it? I haven't seen anything to point to Ioane being disillusioned, why is everyone getting offended on his behalf? That kind of behaviour is what most of the fern wails against.

A non kicking, non passing, non running, non tackling fullback slash midfielder has more chance of being called up than Akira.

@bones well that is a positive spin. He has been in the mix for quite a while and we need some more grunt in our forward pack. As for being the ace in the hole that other teams wont be able to plan for I think that is bit of a reach. It is not so much getting offended on his behalf it is that for a lot of the fern he seems like he should be in there especially compared to some others. I guess we will never know what is going on behind the scenes. What’s the word on the street NZZP?

Honestly, I haven't been in Auckland since the squad was named. Much head shaking I expect.

You have to think that the cartel have him close, and are murmuring sweet nothigns in his hear. He did just cop a 4 year deal with his brother, so maybe there's light down the tunnel. Better bloody hope sothough - either that, or they are brutally honest about what is needed to undo the coaching damage at the Blues, and want to see it on the paddock for the Maori

And what about Reuben O'Neill ?
He is the biggest surprise in this selection, shared with Cameron's.
Next year, when the likes of Hames, Moli, Fidow and even Ross are back, I guess he won't be on the radar again.
However, I think he's had a pretty solid M10 Cup this year, playing soundly on both sides of the scrum. Being selected at the expense of JTA is a real shock though.

@nzzp. Like the Maori tour while show his goods under a pressure situation. Super rugby would be better competition. Anyway I’m over it. Hopefully the English and Irish can muster a pack to test our mettle.

Surely there's some tenuous link to the crusaders that has him pencilled into a starting line-up?

Honestly, I haven't been in Auckland since the squad was named. Much head shaking I expect.

You have to think that the cartel have him close, and are murmuring sweet nothigns in his hear. He did just cop a 4 year deal with his brother, so maybe there's light down the tunnel. Better bloody hope sothough - either that, or they are brutally honest about what is needed to undo the coaching damage at the Blues, and want to see it on the paddock for the Maori

                                Two for Akira wasn’t it?

@stargazer guess the problem is, when you get a bunch of different posters jumping on at varying times of the day, not reading right back through the entire thread and wanting to have thier 2c worth say on the matter, you will get multiple posts on the topic, but my 2c are no more valid than anyone elses (except @MN5 that guy is stuck in the late 90's when it comes to rugby) so you will always get repetition on a forum.

More 2000s than 90s when it comes to Rugby. 90s when it comes to music though.

Though Hansen hinted that BBBR mightn't be fit for Oz, but should be for Japan - so, I reckon he takes Scott Barrett's place and probably pushes a starting lock (Romano) to the bench.

@nevorian Possibly Coles, but probably Luke Whitelock IMO. He's been an AB captain before.

I think that selection is all about getting past Japan, but ensuring we are ready to go against England.

@kiwimurph I can't really see them going into a test match with Jordie as the back-up 10 - but, that's what McKendry is suggesting. At a minimum, I reckon Cameron on the bench - but, won't surprise me if they leave both McKenzie and Mo'unga in Japan.

They're going to need to leave one of Ofa or Big Karl in Tokyo to cover both sides of the scrum in case of a late injury and I don't see why that guy wouldn't play. It makes more sense to leave Ofa (since they have Nepo Laulala in the 32), but I'd rather see Lomax on the bench than O'Neill - so that suggest leaving big Karl.

I reckon they'll leave one of the top 3 locks as well - and Hansen dropped a hint that it will be BBBR.
