@mn5 Google tells me both Plummer and Love also played U19s cricket for NZ.

Which leaves McCaw. I'm not even going to Google him.

    This is not correct .

Edit. Wait, no you are right. Love did play NZ U19s.

Assume you're correct re: Plummer then also.

This would be entertaining (Tom Walsh smashing it), Jordie bowling bouncers etc but these commentary idiots are just painfully unfunny.
Grant Elliot has come in to bat and they managed to say “hairy javelin” 3 times in ten seconds. Once might have been humorous……

Top hitting from Tom Walsh, for a big fella he's pretty good in the field too - yeah, those commentators are trying too hard to be funny, so come across as pillocks.

This event is a really fun watch every year - we have all played at least some backyard cricket & a lot of the rugby players have played plenty of youth cricket, so they're always going to perform decently at least against the cricketers.

Yeah I’m not convinced. I still struggle with the fact an ex AB captain managed to hit Bondy for six, it was only 20 or so years ago he had Ponting, Gilly, Hayden and whoever else jumping and dodging and getting out during a fantastic six wicket spell

@rapido Source on Plummer is not as good as on Love.

They may have confused Plummer with his father, who captained the NZ U19s.

But, he was a gun schoolboy cricketer nonetheless.

Did he bat or bowl ?

At least that ‘how to dad’ guy didn’t play although he’s better at cricket than comedy to be fair.

There are a number of schoolboys who are good enough to play both 1st XV rugby and 1st XI cricket. The U19 WC is only every 2 years so I guess the NZ team plays Aust and other teams in those other years.

Not often. NZC do like the ICC free ride of a fully paid for (with other people's money) U19 world cup. But dont do much U19s in between, if ever these days, 'too expensive'. Except for the last tournament in 2020, when coincidentally someone important's son was in that team. They played heaps of lead ups in 2019. Looks like Ruben Love benefited from that and got one of those series, but didnt make world cup.

I find it easier to believe that Bond was just trying to avoid both an injury and a Harmison style delivery and just get it on the pitch than that they were able to take Vettori into the deep with ease the way they did. Most international cricketers will tell you the biggest step up between club and FC and then FC to test is quality spin (along with extreme pace) and even at his age the drift and flight of Vettori would not be something any of them had seen before even at U19 level.

The best part was seeing Bond and Oram still moving pretty well through their actions in their mid 40s given their history with back injuries.

Yeah and again, I know these guys are years past their best but there has to be some kind of gentleman’s agreement to make the games reasonably close ( as I think they all have been )

I’d have expected more of this to be honest, I wonder how fast Bond was actually bowling ?

Doesn't Cricket always bat first in this and then Flemming has the hardest job of managing next 20 overs to make a specticle of it? He essentially determines the outcome

                        Or am I wrong?

Doesn't Cricket always bat first in this and then Flemming has the hardest job of managing next 20 overs to make a specticle of it? He essentially determines the outcome

                          Or am I wrong?

For sure get it to the final over reasonably close - Team Cricket with the bat always fart around the first few overs to waste time (unless Flems issues with left arm seam really do extend to someone of Richie's quality).

Partly that and partly selecting a few decent actual cricketers for the rugby side.

For all the hype and banter, I wouldn't read much into the result of any of the matches. Team Cricket kept three slips in for the about the first five overs. Some of the Team Cricket bouncers would have struggled to hit a batsman standing on the batsman's shoulders...

If McCullum and Devcich had played for Team Cricket, the match would have been as one sided as it would be if they all played a Black Clash game of rugby...

His job was not to score hundreds or fucking take bags

With the ball he was supposed to bowl quick cheap over after quick cheap over. And be a gun in the field.

Canny fucking cricketer who would still be in our T20 team these days i reckon. Probably doesn't make the 50-over side in the modern game. But who knows?

His job was to bat at the death, find the gap, and tick the score over. Being not out in 30% of his digs shows he probably did that well.
With the ball he was supposed to bowl quick cheap over after quick cheap over. And be a gun in the field.

Canny fucking cricketer who would still be in our T20 team these days i reckon. Probably doesn't make the 50-over side in the modern game. But who knows?

I never said he was terrible, I said he had modest returns. He was an ok player in his day and we often lacked those.

Besides, after your assertion that Matthew Hayden was a flat track bully I’m not sure I’ve paid too much attention to your cricket talk to be honest.

@mariner4life gilly and Michael Vaughan ( whose been excellent) mentioned him the other day, with a tone of definite irreverence. Gilly saying often he tried to smash him out of the ground but seldom could and came unstuck on more than one occasion.

                                        It was nice to hear.
