@KiwiMurph surely it should be part of your routine? In any case, just ask the ref before the game to give you markers.

Just remove all doubt and have a countdown on the screens.

It's also going to be on the broadcast which is helpful for the fans.

I don't understand this aversion to using the technology.

    Quote from DMac

But, unlike other sports such as basketball, there has been no provision of a shot clock to let the kickers, or those fans, know how long is left on the timer.

"I’m not making any excuses, but it would help [if there was a shot clock]," McKenzie said.

"I think it would be great if there was a timer on the screen and you could sort of get a bit of an idea.

"My counting in my head, in 60sec, especially when I’m trying to focus on the kick, is not that great."

im not adverse....just seems unnecessary given the ref is already there talking to them and we can hear the refs warnings

I would like to hear the view of kickers and their view. Players have set routines they go through.

I think the time wasting is taken care of with these time limits themselves - it was before the time limits were introduced that people were taking the piss.

and given currently they dont have a shot clock available so their routine cant/wont include looking at the clock

And I've got a quote from a kicker saying it would be helpful.

Not to mention it also helps the fans at the ground too.

Anyway we are going around in circles. Agree to disagree.

@KiwiMurph because the "technology" is already there... the ref. What if the ref disagrees with the shot clock?

This was the same ref who allowed so much time for box kicks. I wouldn't be trusting his timekeeping. In SR the TMO conveys the time left to the ref, who then tells the player.

It seems EDG was standing up outside English TH armpit, which, strictly speaking, is not legal. But in H1 generally was on other side from ref who only saw the damage he and Taylor wrought. Was pinged at 42, although had ABs cleared from that scrum he’d have let it slide.

Crusaders coaching teams picks crusaders player for higher honors? Colour me shocked.

Funaki had a far better season than he did, almost pushing out Christie.

Funaki was great for most of the season, however he stunk the joint up in the quarter or semi final (can’t recall which now), which may have impacted his chances.

Hotham may as well have not even been on the field for the finals.

          Unsure what you’re getting at.

I mean, no shit Sherlock, Hotham didn’t play finals.

Haven’t we always been led to believe that finals form, or lack of, matters?

Just putting it out there that a shit game at the wrong time of the year may have counted against Funaki…

Yep, completely understand that. Doesn't really make a lot of sense when you're selecting a guy who must have been a big reason why his team didn't even make said finals, over a guy who was very much a reason his team did.

Very fair point. Funaki and Ratima were top drawer in the SR season and I'd assumed Funaki was the one who missed out. Ditto Plummer.

Maybe we'll find out what Funaki needs to work on at the next presser.

@Victor-Meldrew yeah, I would've hoped they'd gamble on seeing what Plummer can do instead of Havili. He's certainly a lot better in contact.

Maybe the plan is to get thru the first few Tests on experience wherever possible, get comfortable and then see what Plummer and co. can do in TRC?

If he shaved his head would you still comment on his hair. Who gives a fuck that he’s trying to save the last bit of hair he has.

I just think it's funny a guy with the nickname "Razor" has a comb over. Most guys these days (like me) just shave their head and get on with life.

But back to rugby. Robertson is the All Black coach now, and when 50/50 calls all seem to be going to journeymen Crusaders it's worthy of comment (Bell, Blackadder, Hotham, Havilli). ABs are for players ready now, not project players or improving the depth/development of the struggling Crusaders.

Kirwan, I say this with full respect, taking into account your many years of work to keep the Fern ticking over and generally just the right amount of robust debate across rugby topics, but . . . your "Crafty Comb" nickname for Robertson is probably one of the lamest things I've seen in a long time.

And this is from someone who has had shares in a lot of slow horses, so I know lame when I see it.

Genuinely surprised at the aversion to a visible shot clock. If we are worried about time wasting then just shorten the time on the clock. Why wouldn’t we want a single source of truth, visible to all parties? I used to kick, and having a ref in my ear telling me ā€œ20 secondsā€ then ā€œ10 secondsā€ sounds bloody annoying.

Yeah true, seems much easier to break your concentration to turn and look at a shot clock.

I don't see any great aversion to it, it just seems very unnecessary. But I can understand the desire for it when one AB kicker fell foul of timekeeping once, in one game.

It's a good lesson for the ABs (and good from their POV that they learned it in a game where it didn't cost them the match, unlike Australia).

McKenzie takes a long time to kick goals and then Chiefs have dealt with that by rushing the tee out onto the park. I'm sure the ABs will do something similar moving forward.

@Kirwan no worries mate I’ll pass it onto him today when I see him.
If he shaved his head would you still comment on his hair. Who gives a fuck that he’s trying to save the last bit of hair he has.

I just think it's funny a guy with the nickname "Razor" has a comb over. Most guys these days (like me) just shave their head and get on with life.

I thought the same about all the Fat Foster jokes, tbh.

I’ll try to be more creative when mocking his vanity šŸ™‚

Shit, compared to Hansen and Foster (advertisements for Type 2 diabetes) he's in bloody good shape. Makes a nice change.

I’d say if it was me, I’d want to take a look at the clock at [40]s to make sure I was starting my routine then wouldn’t look again. Guess everyone would be different.

One consequence of a visible shot clock would be unruly and uncouth crowds counting down on every attempt. The English wouldn’t know what to do with themselves!

Maybe they should have a guy on a loudspeaker. He can count down from ten. Could even have it in Maori and also sign language.

Would be an improvement on Sweet Caroline
