The batsmen have just been offered the light and they have accepted, so it's a draw. Test cricket can be so full of tension and is streets ahead of any other type of cricket when it gets like this one turned into on this last day.

Voges was dropped a while back MN5. Before the last summer, actually. Think he's actually retired now.

You have to cater for the fact that @MN5 is at least a couple of years behind in most sports. Better than rugby though where he's a good 20 years off the pace now.

What does de Grandhomme bring to the team other than being an earnest trier who opponents have now worked out?

This is kind of linked to a query I have about this team - why not go with four pace bowlers (with Santner the spin option)?

We don't have a genuine all-rounder right now and our bowling bullpen is decent enough to have some rotation (Boult, Southee, Milne, Henry, Wagner, Wheeler, Bracewell, Kuggeleijn, Ferguson). Even if you want a batting option at eight, you have some choices in Henry, Bracewell and Kuggeleijn (the latter two will need some PR work I must admit).

    Bracewell the 'all rounder'.......

Fuck I love some shit I read on the fern

@rapido you are right it does appear to show the guy with the bottle. I would have no issues with the actions of Stokes at the beginning but things do become cloudy the longer the video goes on. This is why police absolutely hate assault complaints coming out of drunken brawls. They are always fucking messy to investigate and often the victim's actions have led to his beating. Usually the person complaining to police is the one who lost the 'fight'.

Really like those - but wonder if any ump will have the stones to send someone off. Do we know of any recent instances that would have led to a send off?

That deliberate front foot no ball (in the Windies 20/20 comp?) would be a good example of no more bowling in that innings.

Good to see the bat sizes reigned in also - that was starting to get a bit out of hand.

Can you help me out with this? I don't understand why they would intentially bowl a front foot no ball??

Can't recall who Curtly Ambrose (I think) was bowling to, but the batsman charged him and got a warning - "If you don't stay behind your line, I won't stay behind mine!"

Paddy batch in that world cup, so the story goes

The man who put Malcolm Marshall over Extra Cover for 6... Doubt he would have had any fear at all!

We're pretty fucking far from being a minnow in test cricket. We've got some world class players and a fair bit of talent to back them up. We slap the minnows, including Sri Lanka and the West Indies on a regular basis, and we've never even lost to Bangladesh (huh Aussie). In fact the only thing that really stops us improving is a complete and utter lack of test cricket. 4 tests in 18 months is ludacris!

It's even more of a shame now that we have one of the worlds premiere batsmen in our ranks, and he won't be able to show how good he is because he won't be playing.

    What a joke.

Go well Mr Ronchi. Ended up being a great servant of NZ cricket, and it was always obvious he was a team first man which was central to the team ethos. Part of his game that was not talked about much was his glovework - always very tidy and reliable.

If not for the rain he would have contributed to a great win against Aus before bowing out, which is a shame.

The 170 goes down in NZ cricket folklore, that was an incridble innings.

@Bovidae The way the Sri Lankans smacked Boult around he might not be a certainty either.

I see the SL game was at Edgbaston, as well - on that evidence home ground advantage might not save Jeets from the tonk. However, we'd need some pretty favourable conditions to give our seam attack an advantage over the Aussies, so there might be merit in playing two spinners.

The poms have tried for a psychological advantage by scheduling our match against them in Cardiff! 🙂

You mean trying to make us complacent, as the last NZ team to play a knockout match tin Cardiff won 62-13?

    @Bovidae Yeah - that doesn't surprise me.

Typically, we're really short at least one really good specialist batsman and a wicketkeeper who can reliably score runs.

Heard an interesting interview on Radiosport with Ronchi over the last few days - maybe on Monday afternoon with Darcy Waldegrave - where he was basically saying his batting woes are largely due to mental weakness (he may actually have used that term). Says that when he's confident and positive he bats well, but he struggles to generate that positivity and constantly doubts himself. He wasn't quite Ben Fouhy-esque, but getting up there!

Mankadding has been extended to any time before completing delivery arm swing rather than delivery stride. (good)

I don't quite understand what this one means? Does that mean its easier or harder to mankad?

Easier (at lower levels). Brings the MCC Laws in line with the ICC directive.

Under the previous MCC Law once you started your delivery stride you couldn't mankad. Now you can do it at any time but can't pretend to bowl, hang on to the ball instead and trick the non-striker.
A bit like not allowing the halfback to dummy pass from the base of a ruck/scrum.

I think my suggestion of shifting Kane up to open was a better one - though perhaps cunning Hesson is planning to use Luke at 2 to disguise that Kane is our real opener.

    TG Southee 24 6 60 2 2.50 113 9
    TG Southee 21 4 80 6 3.80 96 13

    So, 8 for 140 @ 17.5...

Agree about the Wag sentiments though. Just tries so hard and usually reaps the rewards for his efforts.

Great return and my MOTM. Not too bad economy rate of 3.1 for bowler that is not really a line and length guy and can be known to be wayward.

Rod Marsh in hospital following heart attack [https://www.skysports.com/cricket/news/12123/12550129/rod-marsh-the-former-australia-wicketkeeper-in-hospital-following-heart-attack)

It is not clear to me where I should place the link I wish to provide, or where to place any text I wish to add to it.

PS. Now I must apologise, this news was previously noted up the page - I did not check beyond the latest 17 hour old entry, believing the news that I saw was reported just this morning.

@hydro11 I was surprised on hearing that our first ODI win in the series was the first in India in 13 years?

We got swept 5-0 in 2010 which was Franklin's best ever series for us. Those were our only other ODI games against India over there since 2003. We also won games over there at the World Cup in 2011.
