I'd be pretty sure expat coaches like Cotter, Haig, Crowley, maybe Penney etc are in that list of 26. But at 26 names, you start to wonder if Hammett and Gibson are there too!

I'd think anyone who's coached Super rugby in recent times - as well as various international coaches....

    Ian Foster
    Warren Gatland
    Joe Schmidt
    Wayne Smith
    Dave Rennie
    Jamie Joseph
    Vern Cotter
    Leon MacDonald
    Tana Umaga
    John Kirwan
    Pat Lam
    Colin Cooper
    John Plumtree
    Chris Boyd
    Mark Hammett
    Razor Robertson
    Todd Blackadder
    Robbie Deans
    Aaron Mauger
    Tony Brown
    Gordon Tietjens
    Milton Haig
    Steve Jackson
    Wayne Pivac
    Darryl Gibson
    Brad Thorn
    Jono Gibbes
    Simon Mannix

    Is that 28?

    Edit: John Mitchell
    Kieran Crowley
    Rob Penney

@Chris-B Perhaps they are interviewing teams of coaches - hence the 26.

I think just casting the net widely for the initial screening.

Don't think John Mitchell has been approached. The job ad specifically says the NZRU are looking for the best and not a journeyman.

26 coaches invited, doesn't mean they all will

@Machpants Yeah, without doubt some will flag it, or be contractually bound elsewhere - and some might put up their hands for assistant positions.

I reckon if you started trawling through the staff in those European clubs it might throw up quite a few interesting specialist coaches that most casual NZ fans would have forgotten about.

@Chris-B Surprised you missed Andrew Goodman and Shane Christie from your list of potential coaches! Luckily you seem to have done us all a favour by also not including NZ Under 20s Head Coach Mr. Craig Philpott.

@Higgins Actually, if they're stupid enough to keep Philpott on as U20 coach, they may also have been stupid enough to invite him to apply for the ABs coaching position. 🀒

    They're the team for 2023.

There's a somewhat common theme to my preferred coaching team posted earlier - but, only if you're paying attention! πŸ™‚

    Jamie Joseph
    Leon MacDonald
    Clarke Dermody
    Kieran Keane
    Ceri Evans

@Chris-B Jason O'Halloran is one that was promising before he left, worked with Rennie before too?

Yeah - be interested to see what sort of list we can collectively compile.

    Conrad Smith is with Pau.
    Nick Evans at Harlequins.
    Bruce Reihana at Bristol.

@Bovidae I have to say - I'm deeply concerned about the composition of the selection committee. Alan Sutherland should have been the first name on the list! πŸ™‚

It’s a sign of the times when you need a psychiatrist on the coaching team.

@nzzp With two disallowed tries. Our defence was weak as shit in that game.

Tackle completion was fine, and not sure Poms missed any tries they should have scored.
Problem was that we let them run to us, which meant they were usually making yards. In comparison, Boks moved forward five yards, so even if the big units made a couple in tackle they still didn't get over gain line.

One was a massive obstruction the other was lucky to get ruled out.

That said, we didnt' lose that mainly because of our defence. We got smashed up front, and couldn't make any yards with the ball. It was horrific.

Retallick forced the turnover at the maul where Poms lost the ball, even if we were lucky TMO on ball.
